    Default Animal name required.

Saturday while cycling in Northern Farm next to Renosterspruit conservation area I saw the head of a killed animal.
Was strange looking and I forgot to take a picture.

    Description as follows.
Head is about the size of a big porcupine with a bluntish nose. Nose not as long as say a Ratel. Huge front teeth (fang like size) in front of lower jaw only.
Thick black hair. All around it was very thick black and white hair/spikes similar to porcupine hair (not the spikes).

If it wasn't for the lower jaw teeth I would have thought it was a Porcupine.

Possible candite animals from this description?

No teeth in the top jaw? Only sheep and cattle and other herbivores have no teeth in the top jaw, this with fangs must have teeth on top. Small bushpig or suricate?

It sounds like the head is the size of a whole porcupine, not the head is the size of a porcupines head. On a re-read I think Christo has it.

Did it not have front top teeth or were these just out?
Except for the top teeth it sounds like cane rat to me.

Possibly a Greater Cane Rat. Lower teeth looks like this one in post number 1 but head was totally black.

Looked much like this one but the long "hair" on ground still baffles me.

Difficult to get a bushpig skull wrong. Maybe when it's very young, but once the teeth start showing, there's no mistaking it
