Default Main power supply keeps tripping

    Hi all

My problem started about 2 weeks ago, the main curcuit breaker in the box in the street trips,

I am on prepaid an we manage our power quite well 300 units lasts longer than a month

None of the curcuit breakers in the 2 dB board in the house falls.

Last week it tripped sometime after 11pm power consumption at that time of night is very low, only outside lights, fridge, decoder and TV on standby on at that time. I waited 4 days for the council to come switch it on ran the gennie for power only to realize the main power box was not locked

Today it fell again I went and switched it on and it fell again within 10 seconds, switched it on again and it stayed on tested all my curcuit in the house 1 by one and power stayed on then I switched on everything oven, plates geyser kettle hairdryer washing machine microwave etc I tried to max it out maybe I'm to blame for stage 4😂 mains stayed on.

Switched off all unnesesary items and carried on as usual for a couple of hours power stayed on, later on it fell again, power consumption at this point was about 350 watts, switched it on again and it fell again after about 10 seconds switched it on again and it stayed on.

Does anybody know what the problem can be.

My money is on a cable fault, between the mains and the dB.

It might very well be, and it's off again.

My earth leakage kept tripping couple weeks ago, moved everything from primary fridge to bar fridge, problem solved. Fridges are a common problem.

Check at the back of that box if there is not a hot connection. As mentioned, could also be a cable fault or the circuit breaker itself is on its way out.

Pic of the breaker. My guess the main breaker is an earth leakage unit.

Replace breaker with a curve 1 breaker. Old breaker tired.

If it is in the municipal box, it could be a faulty breaker, I had the same problem years ago.

Also check circuit breaker size, the house should have smaller one than supply breaker in council box. Agree with d curve breaker suggestion

Agree with Toppie. Your main breaker in the house should be smaller than the municipal breaker which means that if you were overloading your main breaker would trip first. Quite possible that the municipal breaker needs to be replaced.
