    Talking Compliment to Addis

We invested in 3 x 25 litre Addis Diesel containers for extended trips.

We experienced leakage from all 3 the containers and I decided to bring the matter to the attention of Addis.

The containers were collected from us, subjected to inspection and subsequently replaced.

    Great service!

I have their petrol containers - what exactly was the leakage problem due to?

Im also interested to know ...

Need to take extra diesel & was thinking these Addis cans - however, I have to put them inside the 4x4 rental's canopy.

But, if they just smell diesel - I will be fined R1000. They have removed the brackets on the outside of the canopy where they used to fasten the steel Jerry cans - apparently too much damage to the vehicles from leaks & abuse I guess.

From previous experience, some of the Addis cans leaked from the "lid" (prop). Cant afford that to happen on this trip.

    Hi
The original problem was leakage from the spout and vent. Although we have not had the opportunity to test (only received the replacements today) it is evident that the seals on both the spout and vent are different to the originals.

If the seals work as intended there should be no spill and hence no smell- will update on actual experience soonest.

I'll use this as a good excuse to arrange a weekend away!

Use a piece of plastic from a good quality plastic shopping bag as a sort-of gasket at the lid. It works.

Agreed, I once filled mine with 27.8 litres in a 25 litre can. So you can actually leave close to 3 litres of airspace.

Thanks for good advice- will try out over the next week or so.

Headspace makes sense although i never filled over 25 l. The seals should however work without assistance- we'll see. :-)

Hi Xenon, question - so the Addis cans in the shop right now - do they have the old or new seals? Because I will have to get new seals somewhere soon then.

Hi Jacques, I really have no idea. My cans were almost 2 years old but hardly used, I'll only be able to tell if I can do a direct comparison.

Try MikeAG's advice with the shopping bag or contact Addis [email protected] re availability of spare seals. I'm sure there are a lot of these cans in circulation and new seals will be a normal maintenance thing prior to a trip-let us know what you find please.

    Regards, Ed
