Craig would be more than happy to meet local members and share our experience. I have been amiss here but have been rather preoccupied for some time. I have plans to prepare some sort of presentation but it will take a couple of months to polish up to acceptable standards. Even editing the photos is a full time job.

Stan, pardon for being so forward but I almost feel like an old house friend. I'm sure I followed you guys virtually every step of the way.

There is so much work here, I'm sure its not much different from publishing a journal. Have you considered this. I'd be the first to place an order !

Thanks so much, I wonder if any realize how satisfying it has been to discover that anyone has actually followed the blog?

Publishing may be a step too far for me though. I don't know if there will be sufficient demand in the first place and also I have absolutely no experience or expertise in that field. I also not sure that I am prepared to find the time that it will demand.

It is too early to make too many decisions yet, we are still shaking the dust off. It will take quite some time for life to return to normal.

When you disappeared for weeks at a time I got serious withdrawal symptoms

The info you gave is priceless

I plan to spend a day to copy and paste to my hard drive, every post of yours for a future trip

Thanks Ross. It is my fervent wish that the blog will encourage others to undertake such a trip. Others were of great help to us for our trip. There is no point in re-inventing the wheel when others have already done the hard yards.

Please feel free to stay in touch during the planning phase which is almost as exciting as the trip itself. Fairly soon I will have compiled and posted on the blog summaries, favorites and what we might have done differently.

Stan, as you know I have also followed your progress with keen interest and habe suggested that you write a book but do accept your comments re th time that would need to be committed and the possibly limited demand. These kind of trips are not for everyone.
We would not be able to do such a trip ever so followed your experiences and "lived" them vicariously. Perhaps when you do your presentation it could be video'ed and you could make the download available to forum members? Just a thought. I'm not suggesting that it should be a freebie - but this forum is your main "audience" and we would all love to share your reminiscences.
You and Ann certainly went through a lot of effort with your blog and the level of detail is astounding. It will certainly be a valuable resource for others in the future as well as a historical record of the way things were at this point in time for future generations.

With a little spare time on my hands I have now found the time (and the expertise) to post a map copy of our routes followed. These are mainly posted in the Geeks sections (occasionally in the Daily Dispatches) and are copied from the Tracks4Africa mapping and routing program. This should make it a little easier for anyone wanting to follow any of the routes we covered.

I have also posted some list summaries of highlights and lowlights looked at from differing angles.

I still need to update the picture gallery once I can have some changes made to the format by the website designers. I also want to do a summary of what kit worked for us and what did not. Perhaps a section on what we in hindsight might do differently, would be worthwhile?

Good idea , I have posted the word document files as attachments. These have the daily posts plus the more technical posts in sequence. They should be easier to read and load but do not have the screenshots of the Tracks4Africa routes. You will have to go to the relevant page on www.slowdonkey.com for those. Also you cannot click to enlarge the thumbnail pics from these files.
Document 1 is the preparation and proposed route with possible places to stay and highlights in the regions.
From Document 2 is the blog in sequence from day 1 onwards.
