When we went it took 23 hours in one go, border was so backed up BAD so we went to swaziland then moz(6am). Caught maputo on a friday afternoon. It was a long drive, great fun though. Pick your times right it will be quicker.

Return 16 hours, stopped to make tea on the bypass rd

We came back from Legogo on Sunday. Left at 5.30am, home in Johannesburg 8.15pm with about an hour total for both borders. Normally stay over at Blue Anchor on the way up so we are through any border hassles and then it's a 5/6 hour drive the next day. Use the Maputo bypass in both directions.

Left Tofo at 5.30 this morning, just finished lunch at Miramar, Maputo. Took the new highway straight from Marracuene to Costa do Sol. ...total breeze

    Hi Leon,
If you are coming in from Komatipoort then just as you cross the Matola river you turn left onto dirt, do a couple of km's on this dirt through some houses, hopefully see a BAI (Blue Anchor Inn) sign and then lead onto some very nice tar double highway. Near then end you go onto some dirt again, come out where a new bridge/flyover is being constructed and then pick up tar again for the EN1

Join the "DriveMoz" group on Facebook, and download the map/GPS track from their page...

There's 1 or 2 funny turns in that ringroad that will get you lost if you're not 100% sure/aware of them...

    Good Day Guys

I need some advise, we would like to travel to Tofo Beach from PTA during 03/01/2025 to 11/01/2025.
I see that the Komatipoort Border is open 24hour during that time but the trip is still +- 13 hours. Will it be possible to do in a day without it getting dark in the end ?

I saw this thread but I think it is outdated seeing it is from 2015 and a lot has changed since then.

No, you will not make that trip in daylight hours.
Do not drive in Moz in the dark.

Komatipoort border Moz side has been burned down in riots recently, not sure if provisional facilities are as efficient as before.

Surely this is false news about the Moz side Komati border post being burnt down. Don't know where people get this information.....

    URGENT ALERT!!!
    AVOID TRAVEL TO MOZAMBIQUE
Ressano Garcia/Lebombo Border post by Komatipoort, Limpopo (Ressano on Moz side) is being burned down and plundered. Immediately stop all traffic and logistics en-route to Mozambique. Border post burned down and plundered. Cars and trucks on fire. Stay away. Stay away. Get vehicles to safety NOW. RIGHT Now. Call anyone you know on way, on holiday or taking goods there and tell them to turn around!!! Including any truckers or businesses sending South Africans through there...
