    Default MUiZENBERG FiRE

This fire looks like its a bit out of control.
Extremely high winds are fanning the blaze further across the slopes.
Firefighters and Choppers are very busy, but the wind is not helping things.

I have been watching it all evening. It is coming down towardss Boyes Drive over a very wide area now. At this rate it should be all the way down long before sunrise, unless the wind changes. Fire fighters cannot get to it where it is burning now, and the choppers will only be able to take to the sky given good visibility.

As long as it stays on TOP of the mountain, no problem. Some of those areas in the Silvermine section of the National Park need a burn. The firefighters will step in if it threatens the urban edge.

lots of dead snakes, tortoises, lizards now all over, 6am and still raging.
winter is coming. and with heavy rains, we can expect landslides.

Unconfirmed reports that Silvermine retirement Village has been evacuated, and the whole Muizenberg Mountain is now alight.
some spectators in cars and on foot getting in the way.
In 2000 we had a huge fire The Ring of Fire which stretched across the entire table Mountain range...suspect arsonists at work they said

Just heard now some distant family members of mine have lost their house in Stonehurst Mountain Estate just above the Westlake golf course. They just got their passports and pets out...

Still looks very rough from here - big pall of smoke over the whole mountain - and pumping Easterly here.

Glad to hear none of your family were harmed Ian!

We have allot of deliveries in that area today which will have to go on hold. I have heard there is only on lane open on the main rd in and out. All other roads closed i.e. Chapmans and Ou Kaapse weg.

This is worrying, we haven't had a really big one for some years now.
