    Default 5l Party Kegs

Thanks to the kind folks at BevPlus for dropping some toys for me to play with.

Will see how well they do when I fill them this weekend.

Please explain how these kegs work.

Are they recyclable and if so how easy is it to clean?

You basically condition in the keg like you do with a bottle. Then, when conditioned you insert the tap. When pressure becomes too low you use a small CO2 cylinder to repressurise.

I wasn't all that impressed after my first leg went through. It foamed like hell all the way through. Minimal CO2 flow and dosed as instructed for the carbonation. Oh and the tap dripped.

Not sure what I did wrong but will try again the next batch.

I'll have to check my notes (I'm not at home), but it was lower than the actual recommended amount because it was a low carbonation bitters.. probably about 22g table sugar, max.

I have the same experience. It seems the pressure in the keg is too high resulting in the foaming when I pour. With my last keg, I released all the pressure before inserting the tap and then used the CO2 canister from the start to regulate the pressure better. It worked much better, but I have to finish the keg in one go as the next day it goes flat.

I'm curious to see how mine comes out as we used a Paulaner keg with side tap and added 15ml brown sugar.

We were very careful during the pour and submerged the nozzle completely, did not waste any of the good stuff due to foaming
