    Default My new POS V6

    Hi guys.

So i've finally bought my dream van.

    A 1999 colt rodeo 3.0 v6 4x4
    Matt black
The dude used it for hunting and didn't want any light reflected off the body.

Yes, yes, i'll post pictures. I just don't have them on my ipad.

Basically,i saw a gumtree ad, went to have a look.
    Thought about it.
Made an offer a few days later
A bit of negotiation and we agreed on a price.

    Sold! It was mine.

It belonged to a guy that used it to go hunting.
He had sprayed it matt black. The colour scheme has grown on me. I was thinking about respraying it nut i don't think i will.

It has a fair number of problems:

Aircon not working. I took it to a local aircon place.
They regassed it and filled with the lubricating oil.
The aircon now works. The guy did say that the compressor is making a noise so i must start looking for a replacement. He says a recon one will be about R3000, a new one about R5000.
Apparently it is good practice to get an aircon serviced every year or 20,000 km.

The right rear electric window doesn't work from either switches.
    I haven't investigated further.
The left rear window gets stuck when going up.
It goes easier when i used tool in a can to lubricate the rubbers.

It pulls badly to the right.
Supaquick reckons i need to replace all 4 shocks with gabriels for R1800.
Also all the tie rod ends and ball joints for R2500.
So I'm not too happy about the suspension.
    Any ideas on upgrades?
    Or alternative suppliers?

I need to replace the windscreen. R1000

No tailgate. Will a clubcab rollbar fit the doublecab?

    Windscreen washer doesn't work.
The pump works. I assume that the switch on the stalk doesn't work as no power is detected t the end of the connector.

I need to replace the interior rear view mirror. Its loose.

The sun visors are puffy. The material is not lekker. Maybe i can recover them?

I bought exactly the same bakkie in March 2014 as a toy. Got mine for only R35k but spent another R25k to get it up to scratch. Mostly the same problems as yours. In my case tie rod ends, cv joints, both propshafts (universals), ignition coil, LOTS of bushes, clutch slave cylinder, aircon, new headlights, window washer motor, new brake discs and drums with shoes and pads and finally a proper service including cambelt. 305 000 km and runnig smooth as silk. Well, except for the fact that I burned the clutch on a trail in December... More expenses coming soon.

I love it to bits and have gone where I never thought possible with a standard bakkie. But it is low, ground clearance is an issue. My next step is definately lift kit and underbelly protection.

I didn't even know BitsOfSushi made anything other than bakkies.

Are their POS terminals as good as SHARP or other leading brands.

    I priced suspension today:

    Midas
2 outer tie rod ends R165.30
2 inner tie rod ends R198.36
    2 upper ball joints R88.92
    2 lower ball joints R230.28
    Total R682.86

Maritime motors ( local mitsubishi stealer)
2 outer tie rod ends R1083.65
2 inner tie rod ends R1070.60
    2 upper ball joints R883.15
    2 lower ball joints R1061.25
    Total R4098.65

The local supaquick quoted me about R2500 to supply and fit.

I have been reading some threads and it would appear that the general consensus is it leave the colt suspension as standard,
If i install extended shackles then i will have drivelin vibration issues.

Apparently a good shock is the gabriel.

    Any advice?

When I had my old 4x2 Clubcab I used the normal Gabriel Safari, and they were fine, now on one of the Paj's I have Gabriel HDP's and also happy with them. Will fit them to the LWB when the shocks need replacing as well
IFS is like a swambo, soft, sexy and expensive!

I realise midas is much cheaper. I assume this is because of a lower quality?
