    hi Mr. G,

On this occasion a system file was deleted off the Sd card.

I'll be the first to admit that we had some hardware and software issues with our first pajero units. They have since been resolved with the D306 model but we did have issues in the early days - which were totally our fault.

    regards,

    Maurice

    Hi Maurice
PLEASE NOTE: THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT BECAUSE OF DELETED FILES!

Sorry to say mate, but it was on instruction from your technical department...! Following the entire writing you will see that your tekkies advised me to:
    1. Delete save files
    2. Modify sys.txt file
    3. Delete sys.txt file
This was NOT done on the original SD card (ALSO POINTED OUT TO YOUR TEKKIES) and was done on a second card. I did this as I understood problems could be user-related. BUT, as I have pointed out to you and your company, I am no novice when talking about my technical training and background...

Actually, I made my very advanced skills available to your company when I realized problems inherited within the system was not SD card related. I further did point out to your company the problems within the WindowsCE OS, again making my skills available to your company, but realizing the OS system to be flawed after upgrading to a new OS, returned it to you.

To further remind you of my technical skills, here is the original message sent to your staff:
    Thank you Leigh
HW = Hardware, SW = Software, OS = Operating System and SATNAV = Satellite Navigation.

I, however, suspect the problem to be with the actual OS, so if you have a newer OS, it might resolve the problems
Let me first of all give you some of my background:
I am a Systems Engineer with a Doctorate in Unix (one of 2 in South Africa) and have a VAST knowledge of OS, SW and HW integration.
I specialize in large operating systems and do beta work for the largest SW and HW manufacturers in the world and have NDA's with Microsoft, VMware, Cakewalk, Ubuntu, Pi, Citrux, Wyse, Yamaha and SuperMicro in place.
I wrote some of the most advanced HW Drivers for above mentioned companies and
troubleshoot systems for above mentioned companies.
I exclude mentioning work for Samsung, Sony and HTC as the NDA's with these companies forbid me to mention the type of work I did/do... I can, however, mention that it has to do with Android and derivative OS's.
You can follow some of my work on: www.cyber7.co.za
    The problems I experience are:
SATNAV: The OS system crashes when exiting the IGO program. Symptoms: The screen blanks, although I can see luminous, buttons beeps, but nothing happens.
SATNAV: Whilst running (Navigating and non Navigating, meaning with a destination and just in Navigation mode) the Radio will go FULL BLAST.
HW: On the CASKA screen, if you press the CAMERA SW button, the system can not exit out of the CAMERA utility.
    RADIO: Intermittently stops working.
To rectify 1, 3 and 4 I have to stop the vehicle, switch it off for a minute or two and re-start. And THIS is unacceptable...

    NOTES:
I have written to Richardo (earlier this week) hoping to get access to the Android OS to test if the problems were purely OS related, but I never heard back from him.
I have mentioned to Deon that I feel the problem was not the Navigation Software as I reloaded it from NAVIEXTRAS and also did use a second SD card...
Thank you for your time and understanding. Hoping to hear from you soonest.

    kind regards

Let me get this right: you void a complete warranty because somebody played around on the easily accessible software? Why not just reload it?

    Hi Aubrey,

The message I'm getting from all the staff involved is that we upon wanting to travel to you to upload the software, you insisted on doing it yourself. they should not have allowed this and I have put measures into place to ensure it doesn't happen again. If this is untrue, then I personally apologise but this is the message I'm getting from my staff.

I appreciate your IT abilities however, upon reloading your unit with the original software, none of the issues you outline above have persisted. We have tried to replicate the issues you experienced with no success.

I want to strongly urge, especially on this public platform, that should any customer have an issue with a caska, that they contact our technical office and our technicians will rectify the problem. It creates enormous complications when customers work on the hardware or software of the product.

I believe that we have supplied the Sony radio which you were looking for and hope this gives you more joy.

    All the best!

    Maurice

P.S: If you have any further concerns, please feel free to mail me on my personal e-mail address: [email protected]

    Hi Maurice
Thank you for the reply. I understand your frustration regarding not being able to get the correct information from your technical department. Sorry to hear your technical department could not replicate the problems. Have they followed my detailed instructions? I have had no message regarding a Sony radio from anyone.

    kind regards
    Aubrey

    Default The Last Word.

This is the last time I will write about the Caska d306 system and the service I had. This could also be seen as a write-up, so if you purchase this unit, please make sure you understand what you are getting yourself into.

    Hardware:
    • Screen size: 7 inches touch screen 800X480
    • CPU: CSR A9 800MHz
    • DDR: 256M
    • FLASH: 256M
    • DVD pretty standard

My Gripe: Screen dull and hard to see in sunlight.
    Conclusion: Dated hardware.

    Software:
    • O.S: Windows CE 6.0
    • Interface: Very clunky, but managable
    • iGo 8 Navigation
    • BlueTooth only updates phonebook when you selects it.

    My Gripe:
    • Software GUI fails when you exit from the NAV system.
    • Software GUI fails when you try to do too many things too quickly.
    • NAV system tends to SCREAM in your ears every-so-often.
    • Radio crashes sometimes to the point of no response.

Conclusion: Software needs WAY more testing before stable.

Closing NOTE(s): Windows CE is in essence Windows85 scaled down. Why anyone uses this OS is only due to poor/inferior technical support. Android could have been nice on this system, with the dual processing HW Windows CE is just lacking the oomph-factor. The touch-screen is also not of expectations and do not support multi-touch. The South African concern, Planet Electronics, did also not live up to the hype/expectations. I did, however, get my money back. If you read the entire posting above, you will see that they did try and point their inability to communicate/support/fix the problem on me. I did get some very good advice and that was to get the 14 day money-back extended to 30 days when I realised the extend of the flaws in the system. I am also still waiting for call-backs and other options from the company, not forthcoming.

My recommendation: If you are looking for a system that looks like it is factory-fitted, go Caska. Be warned the system to be extremely buggy, though. Rather look at Sony/Kenwood for a far superior product with amazing features.

    Gents,

I have lived with a Caska for 3 years in my Pajero.
In all this time my problems and solutions were as followed:
    1. Garmin did not work as the original matched card was lost by the dealer. Replaced after short delay.
    2. Gps battled to get a signal. Few tries later they did something to the antenna and it was fine since then. The screen was scratched during repairs and replaced with no arguments.
    3. The dvd player stopped working after a kalahari trip. Was replaced free even though the warranty was over. In the repairs the tech damaged a plug on the motherboard. The board was replaced with the latest version - again free and no arguments.
I have a now a new Caska with the latest screen with very good performance.
In my opinion the unit kicks ass with sound quality and gps performance.
Never had the issues mentioned here.

    Good for you

I, on the other hand (after Casca woes), imported a Chinese unit, installed it and it worked out the box. GPS/MirrorLink, BT and all the bells and whistles...

    Cost? R2500 landed... Android 4.4
