Sorry to hear about all of this. I was very happy with the work and service I got from Jakes.

Sorry but I for one cannot justify these kind of actions, charging people for work not done, or second hand parts as new........ That is just criminal!!

I have to agree with this. It's criminal! I think there is a lot of people that got taken for a ride over many years, without even knowing about it.

Hope you guys get sorted, or at least just get to the bottom of this mess.

    Sorry.

Always 3 sides to a story. I don't think its fair to judge the guy on a public forum if you have never had any dealings directly with him and to try generate business for his employees while taking him to the cleaners is not any better. If he was in the wrong then his employees are just as guilty.

business economics 101 - if expenses outstrip income, you are stuffed
you just spiral deeper and deeper into a hole till you drown

mechanics can also make or break you (been there)

lets hope he can get up, shake the dust off, set right those who have been wronged and climb the steep ladder back to recovery
as said before, he is an excellent mechanic, passionate about Landies and will be a sad loss if he is no longer around

    IMHO

Yup,takes a long time to come right when someone has buggered up.
At least Jakes has not blamed his mechanics/workers.

There again a professional/licensed/trained mechanic would have the correct insurance in place, plus a decent management diploma behind him?

Anybody who screws with their customers,or there cars, shouldn't be given another chance.

Completely agree here, no matter who the supplier is or what the product is.
I have also been on the receiving end of similar dealings lately - not related to Jakes but seems business ethics are generally on a downward spiral.

sad to say, I am hardly surprised that this is the situation.

Jakes did some nice work for me a while back, as I posted at the time.

sadly.... I know he owes me and at least one other person for items he took and promised to pay for the following day.

I presume he took them in the full knowledge that that was not going to happen at all. which is very disappointing.

also pretty annoying - I had another guy interested but chose to send it Jakes way as he had a customer for it and could also make some money off it.

that was several months ago and the excuses got so long and tedious I haven't even bothered following it up for a while now, and I doubt my friend has either.

A very sad state of affairs - and things could have been dealt with far better.

As I say though... at least the work he did do for me was up to scratch (which was paid for , cash on the barrelhead...) . I've seen work done by other 'land rover professionals' that I wouldn't comment on so favourably...

I hate hearing about pm's but understand it. I am now not sure how long he had problems for am concerned about all the work done on my vehicle and whether parts were replaced with old parts etc. I have sent my Disco somewhere else for a full check but it would be easier if they knew what was not done.
    Very sad !

Can't believe this Cancelled my service appointment here (not that I have received any service date after 7 days - were still waiting) and immediately booked my Jeep in for major service at APS in Stikland for early next week

    Hope everything get sorted out!!

I had an appointment a few Saturdays ago , before Christmas , that he just didn't pitch upfor . His staff were acting really odd and phoned him to remind him about the appointment .
The one guy was working but the rest were just loafing around and in general making the place look like the sort of workshop where I wouldn't leave my car .I arrived 30min early for our appointment and an hour later i tried to phone him but he did not answer so I left .
I had wanted to speak to him about my gearbox and another electrical issue I was having
    http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...d.php?t=207871
Seems I now need to sort out this stuff up on my own
