    Default head shaking ranger

    i developed a head shake @ 75 -80 km/h

took the ranger in for wheel balance ...still that anoying head shake

took it in again last week and had the wheels balanced with a highspeed balancer....still headshakes

i spoke to a colleque of mine and he has the same problem, and that after a ford dealer had serviced his ranger,

any ideas out there what the problem might be?

My previous Ranger had the same thing. Mine was worst in cold weather.

After endless diagnostics and nothing fixing it, I replaced the tyres and the shake / shudder was gone. I had the new tyres on fot 10000km and the shake never re-appeared

That was fairly common on the ATX Firestones I had on the 2700. It was explained to me that the steel belt and the rubber is very stiff after a cold night. So then the tyre has a flat spot. After driving and some flexing, the stiffness is gone and no more head shake. What a pile of crap.

After fitting the BFG muds, no more problem.

I had a bit of shake and some loose steering that was eventually diagnosed to and corrected by replacing a faulty ball joint.

I had it on the Isuzu DC, but only on mild long turns to the right.

Spent big bucks on wheel alignment, shocks, bushes and tests.

The experience cured me of Coopers, because the moment I dumped them for other tyres, the Death Wobble was gone!

Got the exact same but mine with Continentals 4x4 World Contacts.

Altho HiQ DID tell me that the tyres were dodgy and NO amount of balancing could sort it out, make it a tad better yes but not for long. Swopped them for Scorpion AT's

it could even be tie rod ends that have worn ball joints.

I had this on my Isuzu 280 DT DC.
Most pronounced when turning at 80-90 km/h.
Only went away after I changed tyres.

Since you have changed tires, balancing, suspension components ( if its all been done correct) the only other item that may cause the steering vibration are perhaps the brake rotors/disks are unbalanced or slightly warped. A skim should fix.

Is there a shudder when braking ?

What size tyres are you running?
    Have you changed them recently?

I experience the same thing and after much frustration discovered that my tyres had a maximum spec for rim width. And I was out of that spec, changing rims seems to have solved that issue.
