Default FJ Cruiser Nudge Bar Design

    Hi all,
I have looked at all the after market replacement bumpers and they really not make the FJ Cruiser look better - most show off to much suspension and all seem to loose the nice little silver 'bumperets' on the sides. The iconic image goes missing!

So I took a 3D image of a FJ Cruiser and modelled a Nudge Bar to fit over the existing front bumper. I would like some feedback. I will then look for a manufacturer to see what he can do. The 3D allows me to make revisions and I do not have to work in the metal to see what it looks like.

Hi Rudd, nice work! The world of modern CAD is amazing.

I am looking for a 3-D model of a Disco 3 or 4, 1:1 scale. Any links? Busy toying with some aerodynamics (CFD) on trailers to look into a simple solution for keeping out dust etc.

Your nudge bar design looks cool!

    Regards.

    Hi Carel,
Look for 3D Models on the web - try and find SketchUp models and they have a lot of people who model things that are dear to themselves. I was luck and found two, one great and one not so great.
SketchUp is free to use from Trimble who bought it from Google. There is also a professional version that I use.
    Good luck

Rudd , sorry to wet your battery , great effort , but simply not my taste . I'd rather leave the bumper as it is .

Looks a bit too much like a cricket player or grid iron players helmet. Sorry, not my taste.

The silver bumperets were something I never linked from the start.

If it is a certain look you are after, then maybe, not at all to my taste and there is nothing functional about it, nowhere to mount lights, antennas, a winch, and offers very little protection, especially the pipes at the bottom.

Besides that you will have a problem with the pipes so close around the lights, which will cast massive shadows and that is a real safety concern, so please revisit that area before you carry on.

Bumpers that "show the most suspension" are probably the most practicle and fit for purpose

    Thanks guys, good input.
I will look at the aspects such as shadows from the bars impacting the lights - this had me a bit worried and I was going to do a test.
Mounting lights was an issue for me but a winch was not the target as I would then go the bumper replacement route - and expect everyone else with a need for a winch to do the same.
This was not meant as an extreme 4x4 bar but a bolt-on the protected more than the standard nudge bar - especially for pushing the odd sapling over without smashing an expensive indicator.
