Default First aid kit - what does yours contain?

    Hi,

I am assembling a comprehensive first aid kit for 5 months in the bush, and would like to know what you guys deem necessary?

    Thanks
    TP

Teepee if I remember correctly you're starting your trip from CApe Town. Is that correct?
If so, there's a supplier here who specialises in 1st Aid kits. You just walk in and choose the size you want. They supply the emergency services etc.

    Good one here too:

    http://www.overland.co.za/

Look at the scroll down menu on left of page - under "Kitting Out"

AA shops sell good ones as well, in different sizes.

The items I always add are

    • "Flamazine" (spelling?), for burn wounds, best I know
    • Kem-O-Dene - the best for "Gippos", and it is dirt cheap.

Yep, from WWII times in North Africa, it's shortened slang for Egyptian tummy

A close relative to this inconvenient affliction is "the bosveld quickstep" A strange running/jumping motion, looking like you're also riding a tall camel, due to your @rse being so tightly clenched, whilst heading for the nearest bush

Obviously totally different from the cone (as in ice cream) you ended up with on the border while continuously turning around watching for incoming fire...

Some persons will tell you to pack drip needles and drips and laryngoscopes etc. If you are not trained dont pack it, in some countries it could get you in trouble.
Secondly and more importantly know how to access the emergency service that you will be insured with. There are many companies that offer evacuation packages including Netcare911, international SOS etc. Knowing how to get hold of them in each country that you are in is much more important !!!
    Enjoy the trip !!!
