    Default Mercedes C180 standing

    Hi All the Mercedes guys.

    I'm looking for advice please.

I'm thinking of making an offer on a Mercedes platkar (C180 model 2000 I think). First of all, the car has been standing for about two/three years, thick under a layer of dust... Now, I believe the following must be done to get it going again:

    - Major Service
    - New tyres
    - New battery (the whole car is so dead, I can't even get it open)
    - Complete general inspection...

Can you guys suggest any other points that need to be looked at please?

I don't know the mileage because I can't get the car open, but it is in an excellent external condition. All advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Rat droppings. Or any other rodent droppings.

Rats like Merc wiring. Must taste like bratwurst.

a car standing so long will probably need (at a minimum)

    1) lots of oil leaks fixed - engine - gearbox - rear diff
    2) the brakes will need attention - seals and probably a hone / bore on slave cylinders
    3) dont just crank the motor over - pull the plugs out and spray oil into the cylinders - leave to stand for a good while
4)the fuel tank will need a clean out
    5) new fuel filter needed - probably fuel lines
    6) radiator will probably be dead as well - blocked / rusted etc

    I think a good running c180 is about 35k
so if you offer over 20k you going to take a hiding

3bar, your post made me realise that it's probably gonna need more than just a major service...thank you. I think I get the idea.

Even if those items are still working fine, they might require attention soon...

a car is made for driving
the longer it stands the more grief it will give

i wont even go into rust
    rotten suspension bushes
the heater box inside the car leaking
    the fan system
    the cracks in the leather
    the cracks in the dash
the uv damage to the window seals
so unless its a really good price then run

What was the reason that it stood in the first place?

All this time it stood in a locked garage. I dusted it off this weekend and it looks good.

*EDIT: The reason it stood so long, was that the owner (old guy) dies and his wife could not drive it. Think it's been about two years. We made an offer of R10k...will see what happens.
