    Default Rafiki

Just fitted the Rafiki Spare Wheel Carrier and their Cubby Box Extender to my Defender 90. A couple of hiccups along the way but the way those were sorted out and the 'can do' way it was handled by Johan Smal made it a really good buying experience. Well done Johan.

Regarding the two additions - top class. Should be standard equipment on this already legendary car.

    Hi Mike,

Excellent, let's see some photos sometime of the new additions.
I'm also giving much thought to having a spare wheel carrier fitted to my 90.

I bought some Rock sliders for my Defender from them and was equally impressed they took some time to fabricate due to the strike awhile back but it was excellently handled and the final product was top class.

So, an old thread but with an update.

Unfortunately the spare wheel carrier wasn't the success I'd hoped it would be. One or two weak areas and a crack developed. That however is not the purpose of the update. Johan's service is.

From the word go he never stood back from his product. Came to Johannesburg from Heidelberg himself on a few occasions to make things right. Once we realised that it wasn't going to work it was Johan who suggested a full refurb, a new unit or, "Mike, you've had enough. Would you prefer a full refund?".

Full refund made with no quibbles. Well done Johan and thank you. I'd buy Rafiki again even if just for the service.

sad that the problem was resolved by refund.
ideally the problems should have been resolved and maybe a new unit fitted
I like the Rafiki stuff. sure they found what the shortcomings were.
are you now without a carrier?

    Mike.

I made my own spare wheel carrier. I still have the old bracket laying somewhere in the garage if you are interested.

A KG of biltong might do the trick.

Thanks Disco but I'm going to leave it for now.

A kg of good biltong - these days that could mean its cheaper to buy new!

    Thanks for the offer.

I can vouch for the Rafiki gear. I have a full Rafiki kit on my defender. I saw what the previous owners put the kit through and I must say its bloody tough...especially the rock sliders.

I agree also that the spare wheel carrier needs a little re designing as I've experienced a sliiiight sag on mine.

On a last note, Johan really goes out of his way to give customers the best service possible. Great guy.
