Found ourselves at an auction looking for a truck for the business. sadly no good ones around, so we stuck around as we saw a RR on the auction list. well the rest is history, she approved of our drooling all over her and subsequently followed us home.
She's a 2005 Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged. and all she for roadworthy was 2 new tyres. i fitted 255/55R19 General Grabbers and I am actually impressed with.

I only have one question, the Navigation cd is in the back, but the head unit still asks for one to be fitted.

    Congrats that does look nice?

    Is that a SC?

    Re: the NAV CD
1: Check for any moisture/dampness in and or around the connections and components in the back
2: Disconnect (after the car had been asleep fir a good few minutes) the battery and reconnect 5 minutes later and let the units reboot and see if that helps

Ad for as the paperwork reads, yes the SC.
Goes really well. Consumption is not that great though.

I'll give it a go. Have to enable my nanocom as well for the RR then at least I can monitor a few things.

I have been reading up a bit, seems the oil cooler leaking into the water is an issue. How would I go about sorting that out before I loose an engine?

    Consumption: Ya well
Oil Cooler: I believe the issue you refer to is related to the TDV8. I have not heard of or read about the 4.2SC leaking oil into the water. I would suggest you have the FATTY serviced and inspected, inclusive of the gearbox and related components.

The only oil leak I have had in 3 years was a few months back when the gasket on the gearbox sump went.

And they say RR's are complicated to work on.

Very nice RR, would not mind one myself.

Capacity is 104L. You could have a sender unit (in tank) fault or suspect wires leading up to the sender unit if it only registers up to 75L.

Trip down to the Robertson's yesterday from Witbank. Average fuel consumption 8km/l actual and according to thw on board pc 8.4km/l.

Really not bad considering we where 4 adults with luggage and aircon on all the way.

These things just eat up the km's. Total silence and comfort. Biggest problem was keeping the beast within the speed limit, just don't realise how effortlessly these get get up to speed.

Did a trip to Balito, and again this Rangie just eats up the kilos.
But alas it was not uneventful.
Firstly got a warning to check coolant level. Then opened the bonnet to a steaming burst pipe.
Easy fix atleast. Cut the pipe and reconnected. But that got me to see oil in the expansion tank.
So nursed her back home. Uphill she was not happy at low revs so drove her manually.
Got home took the oil cooler off and was met with not red but sadly water contaminated gearbox oil.
How do flush this? As I am sure the torque converter did not drain out with the rest of the oil?

Got a new oil cooler from Grand Mark. Not even BMW could help me.

Bought 5l of normal atf and just ran it through the system for a semi flush. A lot of water contaminated oil still cane out. So much I was afraid it could be more damage than just the fluid cooler. Then I sat down had a beer and realized that the bloody filter is probably still full of it.
Do I have to replace the filter? It was done in Dec 2017
Or will it just work through?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, with your new baby.

Benson if I was you I would do another flush of the box and then drop the gearbox sump, which also holds the filter and replace. Much cheaper than overhauling the whole box.

Or alternatively, might be worth while to give ZF a call and find out if there is someone in Bloem who has the machine to do the propper flush. Should save you a lot of trouble in future.

    Hi Benson

congrats on your aquisition! They are spectacular vehicles. Ours is the Td6 expertly tweaked by Elton of Eurospeed. Goes nearly as well as a TDV8 but with none of the TDV8 nonsense.

You will enjoy her and I wish you many happy miles with her.

The big problem with the "Fattie" is that once you have grown used to it, you will struggle to get comfortable with a lesser vehicle again.
