Default What diesel engine for Pajero ?

Hi guys, i would like to find out what diesel engine would be the best to replace the original colt 2.8 Tdi with? I want something better and more reliable and better on fuel consumption. I was thinking about the Isuzu 2.8 or 3.0 Tdi or the VW 1.9 or the GMC 6.2 diesel etc. etc. etc.
Any good advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

3.2DiD, but it's still going to be expensive...
IFS is like a swambo, soft, sexy and expensive!

Apparently I need to make the airplane noises like mommy does when I try to spoon feed you the info..

Yes its the expensive part that is putting me off, and i dont prefer any engines that work with electronics.

Cheap, Light on fuel, Reliable, Easy...pick two

In a perfect world I would build a Pajero with a LS motor, TH gearbox and atlas tcase, but that's not cheap and not fuel efficient. Would be reliable though.

In a more realistic world, I wouldn't mind a 2JZ motor from a Supra in it, but motor alone is 18k, (but is good for 500HP+). Not cheap at all, not easy. Probably fairly fuel efficient and reliable if done right.

3.2DiD reliable, not cheap, but easy...also fairly fuel efficient.

Lexus V8, cheap engine, not easy, not fuel efficient...they're apparently quite reliable though...

We can go on and on...

Please don't put an Isuzu motor in the Pajero. The KB on the door is an indication... :-)

The 2.5 Ford motor is very similar to the 2.8 you have. And very reliable. Think it is made by Mits for Ford and Mazda.

Im sitting with the same problem of changing my motor of my colt, the 3,2 motor is basicly a 2.8 that has been perfected it bolt on to the gearbox and if tuned correctly it can go to 140kw and 450nm feul consumtion can be up to 7L/100km BUT you need an ecu and that where i got stuck. I want to use a aftermarket ecu but struggle to find one

Thats great news thanc i will do that because i think that a oem harness and ecu is gonna be alot of money the motor alone is about R30k+
