it is the nut holding the steering wheel
I personally would hang onto the LR handbrake with the LR transfer case
other option is the disc brake conversion which fits onto the rear propshaft

Bought mine with conversion already done. It is using the LT230 LR TC. Looked at that handbrake conversion, but there is no space in my Defender for that. Need to upgrade the rear drum brakes anyhow so hopefully the jaguar calipers conversion will be OK.

I am going to try and keep the TC where it originally sits as then the props stays the same as it is a better way of standing still up a steep hill vs only rear calipers that is locked with the handbrake. I will first test the setup with standard radiator as it has a big radiator(the landie's engine is also 3.9 V8 so will see if this will be sufficient enough and probably 2 electric fans, but heard some of the guys say that the lexus alternator isn't too strong and packs up later on due to heavy load from the two electric fans. Thanks Wilk I am going to source for one that hopefully have the rear mounted sump as that will be easier to modify and make it a bit deeper for offroading purposes. Do I need to make the autobox's sump deeper aswell or is it fine as it is?

Yes. will be better if you can keep the TC in the same location. Better to ask Rob regarding the sump for the autobox as I haven't use mine (Autobox sump- standard) off-road.

Another thing where will I be able to get an adaptor plate made to mate the autobox with the TC I have seen one on gumtree but it was already sold which had the speedo sensor mounted in the adaptor plate. I assume the easiest way to make the speedo work is to keep the ecu and mount a disco 1 speedo sensor in the adaptor plate?

remember that to fit the LT230 transfer case to the back of the Toyota gearbox, you need an extension tube and shaft and not simply an adaptor plate

Attached picture of tube Landyluvver mentioned. (Don't know who makes them). Would think the speedo pick-up on the Disco 1 is on the TC. The wires on the mounting tube is for Spitronic Computer.

Yes I am talking about that tube thingie don't know what to call it so therefore just said adaptor plate although it isn't only one piece of plate.

    don't have contact details
    maybe Lextreme can help

THat adapter is pricey. besides the 2 plates with a tube between remember you have a piece of shaft, splined at both ends to fit the gearbox output shaft at the front and into the TC at the rear. Very time consuming piece of engineering.

Gearbox sump is fine, no need to deepen it.

You run two speed sensors. One on the extension tube to tell the gearbox what its output speed is which helps it calculate shift points, and the one on the back of the TC which is used for your speedometer.

Yes I might be able to make up the two plates with the tube in the middle but the spline that connects the gbox to the TC is a different ball game but will have to wait till I get the motor before I can start anything. I might have access to some nice CNC lathes and milling machines to make up the adaptor thingie but will probably have the inside shaft made up and I assume I'll have to have it case hardened?

been looking into using the gearbox extension shaft for the Puma
it makes the conversion a lot quicker

you need the extension tube and extension shaft
the idea is to use the extension shaft from a Puma and modify to fit the back of the Toyota gearbox
you need to remove the rear portion of the Toyota box to bolt the adaptor on so the extension which is removed has the splined socket attached
cut this splined section off and graft onto the Puma shaft
    will try to post pics
