Default All my females stranded in Pietermaritzburg - advice needed please!

    Morning all,

Swambo, my daughter with her daughter and 3 month old son, accompanied by another female friend and her two very young sons, were on their way to Margate this morning and then the Combi's diesel glowplug light started to flash, no overheating or anything.

When they stopped to check everything, they had a huge battle to get it started, but it has no power. VWSA eventually sent a towtruck and all of them, with the Combi and a loaded trailer, are now on the back of the truck on their way to VWSA in PMB (I think...).

I KNOW that the stealers will take us for a ride here - is there anybody out there that can help, please?!?!?!? maybe a garage or something that can be trusted and relied upon. It is foreign terrain for us and with the females alone.......

Any advise will be highly appreciated! Zero 8 2 eighthundred 44 one two is my own number if anyone can help.

    Thanks,

    Bees

It appears to be quite common on the VW diesels, and it might point to the EGR valve that is the issue...

Seems, from the last link, that clearing the fault resolves the issue for a while...

    Good luck none the less!

Barons in PMB are pretty genuine, got my first A4 from them, and I used to drive from Kloof (Durban) to PMB for them to service the car. Unfortunately Dealer labour fees will apply, but I doubt they would take the ladies for a ride! I still agree someone should accompany them though, a second opinion never hurt anyone.

Thanks everyone, they just landed at Barons as Jordan indicated would be the best bet at this stage.

And thanks for the pointers towards the EGR - I PRAY that it is the only issue and that they can blank the bloody thing....

All your very quick responses are very much appreciated - I sommer love you all!

    Quick update:

It was just found that the cambelt snapped.... they have ordered one and indicated that we will know by Wednesday or Thursday if there is any other damage.

To one person in particular on this forum: A MASSIVE THANK YOU LEN!!!!!!

I do not know you, have never met you, have never spoken to you before today, but you arrived there without questions and offered unconditional assistance on the spot! You, sir, is what makes this world go around and what this forum is about.

So, from myself and my whole "kroos": THANK YOU!!!

Glad the wheel is turning Schalk.

Just a question though, what Kombi is it? I was under the impression the 2.5TDis had no belt, and the 2.0TDi is probably an interference motor? Sounds scary.

How did they manage to start it with a snapped cambelt?

Might be that the belt was worn and missing a few teeth, so it might have slipped, throwing the timing out, therefore the loss in power and struggling to start. The belt might have broken then after the restart.

The feedback is that it stripped a few teeth, somehow managing to carry on until they found a safe spot. How it started again is anybody's guess. So, the upside is that possibly there are no other damaged parts (will know tomorrow).

I singled out Len in one of my posts, but guys: this forum is assembled with the BESTESTESTEST people on the face of this earth!! I had SO many calls, people I cannot even remember their names, some from DBN, others from JHB with family down there somewhere, everybody offering help and assistance.

To all of you: thank you a million!!! I hope that one day I can repay the willingness and caring of all of you!!! Swambo and co are in tears over it - unbelievable!

Before I start to cry and sound like a wooze, I am logging out and going to gooi a very big dop now!!! Cheers!

    Bees,

I trust your family is fine by now and the damage to your wallet not too severe.
I therefore dare to raise the matter now: Your family tree appears to branch out wildly, with three generations following a guy of 48. Either you were a busy young fellow, or there is a typo there.
