Default Deep Cycle Hi-Cycle 450 Amps

I might be getting one of these from a friend. Would there be any harm in taking out my 102 Amp battery and putting in the 450 Amp battery as my second battery?

    Stiffen up the vehicle suspension!

Electrically, there shouldn't be a problem except your alternator will now take much longer to keep the battery charged after a long weekend or similar period of current drain from the battery.

In my personal opinion, I wouldn't bother, waste of too much space and unnecessary weight unless you're going somewhere really remote and have no other means of charging a battery.

The IEC stands for International Electrotechnical Commission. The rating you are referring to is the CCA or Cold Cranking Ampere

The cold cranking ampere (CCA) rating refers to the number of amperes a battery can support for 30
seconds at a temperature of 0°F until the battery voltage drops to 1.20 volts per cell, or 7.20 volts for a 12V
battery. Thus, a 12V battery that carries a rating of 600 CCA tells us that the battery will provide 600 amperes
for 30 seconds at 0°F before the voltage falls to 7.20V.
Johan's being pulled a fast one methinks - it's not A 450 Ah but probably a standard 102Ah hi-cycle battery if it can supply that CCA

I doubt it, about being pulled a fast one, this is one seriously big battery. This battery is about length wise the size of almost 3 x 102 Ah batteries in a row if you know what I maen. I'll double check tomorrow.

    Hi,

Post up the Make/Model of this beast and let's check it out and see if you are being pulled a fast one.

Ok my mistake, it is a 12 volt 143Ah battery, still a good battery I can get, should give you another 16 hours at 2.5 ah in relation to 41 hours on a 102 Ah battery, I could do with 57 hours, dis nou as my somme reg is.

Given the size and weight of this battery a second 102 would be better surely? Bu then again if it costs you zilch then go for it...
