    Default Sani Trip

Thinking of doing Sani in October some time. Have not done the pass and need to do it before it is tarred. I believe it is not a major pass anymore but more a slightly bad gravel road.
    Still worth the experience.

Would like ideas on my thinking (stolen from a friend) and recommendations for simple accommodation.

    • Drive to KZN on Friday after work, should be able to get to the area around 19H00.
    • Stay overnight at a self-catering chalet or similar.
    • Saturday morning up the pass, pub lunch and then down again to the chalet.
    • Sunday morning drive back to JHB.

Deon - did it very recently.

    Back packers in Himeville.

    Back packers at Sani top.

If you want to take the scenic route from Harrismith, let me know and I will mail you the route. The scenic route is worse than the pass-proper, btw.

I did the pass last month in my Navara 2wheel drive. So it really is quite easy, although certainly worth the drive if only for the amazing scenery. Once through at the top, perhaps before lunch, take a drive out past the Sani Top towards the Saddle (you will recognize it when you see it). That's quite fun, and can be quite testing if it is even slightly wet. We stayed at the Backpackers on the Sani road, just before the Sani Pass Hotel. Very cozy. Enjoy!!!
