    Default VENOM by Jonathan Leeming

    Hi Folks
I'm giving another lecture at the Ditsong National Museum of Natural History (Transvaal Museum) in Pretoria on the 9th October 2014. The lecture is hosted by the Museum and VenomWorks and there is no cost to attend, and there will be drinks and snacks afterwards.

I've spoken twice before at the museum, both times where completely booked out. If you would like to register for this event please visit

    http://www.scorpions.co.za/events/na...useum-lecture/

    The blurb is as follows:

The world around us is filled with amazing animals and plants. The sheer diversity of life on Earth demonstrates how ingenious nature can be. Despite the harshest environments on land and at sea, animals and plants have adapted and discovered ways to survive using amazing ingenuity.

Venom is just one such adaptation which has evolved in animals. It is not only used to catch and immobilise prey, animals also use venom to defend themselves from threats, during courtship and for digestion. From a human point of view, we consider all venomous animals as dangerous and aggressive creatures to be killed onsite.

In this presentation, Jonathan Leeming will discuss venom and the surrounding human perceptions, touching on those iconic venomous creatures that human civilisation fears so greatly.

We attended the last lecture at the museum and found it interesting.
Daughter also attended the First Aid Course for Spider Bites & Scorpion Stings at Groenkloof Nature Reserve earlier this year.

We hope to apply her newly acquired knowledge in future whenever we go into the bush and come across spiders and scorpions!

My lecture is on venom in general. It's not a first aid lecture, although I do give those from time to time.

As far as Cape Town Museum is concerned, they have their own speakers (from the University) who give lectures from time to time. I did give a lecture on Cape Town 2 weeks ago, but not for the museum.

Have a look at www.scorpions.co.za for th ekind of things that I get up to.
