Default Dinokeng - Fed-up with party music at weekends

Booked a relaxing week camping at Willemís Rus, returned this afternoon.

    Great place by the way....

In the last four years we must have spent at least 12 - 15 weekends at various camps, and almost without fail your Saturday evening at least will be ruined by loud party music, mainly from Hammanskraal.

Last night however it was two separate parties at homesteads close to Willemís Rus.

The whole bush atmosphere and weekend is spoiled.

We are booked again the long weekend from the 20th Sept, truly hoping to not experience a repeat.

I am at a point of giving Dinokeng a complete miss in the future, which is a real shame as there are so many fabulous campsites.

We were at Dinokeng Resort this weekend, we really liked it and itís a good few km further away from Hammanskraal.

There were a few loudish campers near us (a large group) by they settled down early enough not to be a worry.

No one wants to hear diso action in the Bush.
That Arlington Brewary in the Dinokeng insists on blasting loud music.I will never set foot in that place again.

Been to Almega a couple of times and the Hamanskraal music wasn't a problem. I've read at certain places in Dinokeng the lights can also be a problem.
One evening at Almega a group of campers played some music, but they got quiet after 21:00 as per the rules.

I want to try another place in Dinokeng, also long weekend of the 20th, but now have my doubts about Willemsrus.
I don't drink water, unless it's been through a brewery first.

I did not know about the Arlington Brewery until last Monday when we left for Dinokeng. We did visit, but during daytime and was quite pleasant. By road the brewery is perhaps 8Km from Willems Rus, as the crow flies a lot closer. The annoying music we heard was a lot closer, like neighboring farms.

Thinking back, we did not hear music whilst at Almega, perhaps because it is like Dinokeng resort quite a bit further down the main tar road from Hammanskraal.

Also, don't go just after payday, it is like guaranteed hectic blaring music from Hammanskraal.

There's also a big thatched roof bar place close to a river, turns left of the main gravel road .... They also played VERY loud music until the early hours, which was a bit annoying when we visited one of the tented camps a year or two back. Woke up the Saturday to a lions roar, went to be with a doef doef doef ....

I find that the Hammanskraal shebeen gumba-gumba is usually at its worst over pay-day weekends. I've had it really bad at Kyleu once or twice and less so at Willem's Rus. I've also had loud langarm-dans music at Willem's Rus coming from a neighboring farm.

This (along with the expensive conservation fees) keeps me away from Dinokeng for the most part, especially over pay-day weekends / public holidays.

That one is VERY close to Hammanskraal.
We were kept irritated the whole night. If only the music were stylish...

We will be at Elephant Waterhole this weekend for three nights.
Hopefully far enough from the others.

We were also at Willemsrus this past weekend (Suzuki and offroad trailer on number 17). I must say, I have been to this spot quite a few times and this was the first time I experienced noise disturbance from the surrounding area, coming from a few other properties in the vicinity. Willemsrus, Tamboti Vreugde, Dinokeng Camp & Leisure, etc are all relatively close to each other and many other lodges. Its far enough from Hammanskraal for sure.

The culprits this weekend was very much other upper middle class travelers somewhere in the area close by. There are a lot of lodgings around the Dewagensdrift road section and some venues do get booked out for bachelor parties and the likes. You win some, you lose some. I enjoy a good evening about town with the mates myself, but I prefer peace and quiet in a game reserve.

I will keep on going back and supporting Willemsrus, because the owners are very good at shutting down noisy revelers on their own property very quickly. Nothing they can do about ambient noise, I suppose.

Thanks for the positive feedback Kierie, seems my timing sucks choosing the wrong weekends

The rest of the week camping was super.

We were on stand 5 and saw quite a few game species visit the waterhole in front of us. Stand 14 also looks great and opposite the other waterhole.

Iíll book again at Willemís Rus, next time the weekend before payday

    Afternoon there
My experience at Willemsrus was quite pleasant. But it was over a middle of the month weekend.

If you want a real of the map experience, not to far to drive for a weekend, with nothing but a ďwarm-water donkeyĒ and a toilet, consider Sondela bush camp. Five campsites and try to take the whole camp with likeminded buddy's. (014) 736-8800. Sondela's number. 110 km from my house in Pta and near Bela Bela.

Be there 2 hours before sunset to set up camp. It really gets dark out there!
