    Hey F_D

I have a BX-2 that has served me well for the past 2 or 3 years, I'm looking at buying an off road trailer, and in order to save a few bob on an electrical system I want to permanently mount the BX-2 in the trailer to charge 1 deep cycle battery, although I would like to upgrade to 2 batteries later, and run the fridge, would the BX-2 be able to handle this?

    Thanks

    Hi Geoff,

Not a good idea - the charger is designed to operate only on one battery at a time. If you run two batteries in parallel, you will confuse the electronics of the charger. If, however, you charge only one battery at a time, then no problem.

But hey, I have to eat as well, simply buy another BX-2

The Benton BX-6 can charge up to four 12v batteries at 4A each, but it would be cheaper to buy two separate chargers.

We have got some of the opriginal BX-1 chargers (no 220v AC auto-revert) in stock, these are going at R225 less than the BX-1 Pro version. I'm not mentioning prices on the forum, every shipment we receive is a different price due to the volatility of the ZAR.

    Hi
I have a BX-1(M) and have been happy with it. Have just connected it to my VW Toaureg 2007 3.0tdi as am having cold starting issues, it connects at automatically goes into Bike mode, I can not get it to go into any other mode. Have unplugged it to reset and no joy. What could the issue be, the mode button does not seem to move the indicator into other modes at all?
    Regards
    Brad

Have you tried it on another battery to ascertain whether it works correctly? Some of these newer type of batteries seem to produce weird results with the automatic charging algorithms.

Having said that, the mode button might require replacing or cleaning, some of them appear to build up a layer of oxidisation which prevents the charger from switching over to other modes. Opening the BX-1 (carefully! - Mains power off) and spraying the contacts with a switch-cleaner seems to do the job.

Thank you , will try it on another car battery and will see what the result is. The only other battery I have at home is a scooter battery and some alarm system 12V batteries. It has seemed to have charge the Toaureg battery up to full and will leave it on trickle / maintenance overnight.
I have switch cleaner so will try that as a last resort.

Hi F_D, got my 1 pro today and jiminy cricket it is brilliant. Easy to use and got straight on the job, thanks boss. One question, it charges and then as it should, dropped into a float maintenance program which is holding the battery at 13.1V. The other two batteries I have being charged are being looked after by two different makes of chargers, both are held at 13.8v and 13.6 respectively. I have no issue with it, find it interesting though. Why so low by comparison? .

    Good to hear this, Shippy!

Assuming all batteries are normal sealed LA types, 13.1v is certainly the maximum voltage you would want a float charger to produce when in trickle charge mode. If the other batteries are of a different chemistry, then they could be at a different state of charge and would probably settle down to 13.1v still. But it sounds to me that the BX-1 Pro is behaving absolutely correctly at limiting the voltage to no more than 13.1 volts.

    Hi FD

I purchased a BX1 of you in May this year.

Is there an additional kit you sell that allows me to hardwire connections to the battery or use crocodile clips like the BX1 Pro. (I hope that makes sense!)
