Default New Tyres for Pajero Sport

I need some advice from the GURU's

    I have now done 85 000km with my Bridgstone H/T. 265/65 R 17 on My 2011 Pajero Sport

I want to replace the tyres and I am looking at the Dunlop AT3, which I can get for a good price. But I maybe want to go a little bigger / wider.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, also your comments on the Dunlop AT3

    Thanks a lot

If you said Cooper AT3 the answer would be yes, but Dunlop AT3 not too sure.

Could you state your concerns with SA AT3 Dunlop's please, they are R1000 cheaper than other.

    Many thanks for the responses

As Bostokkelos mentioned, the Hancooks are awesome albeit a bit expensive these days. I would not hesitate replacing my current set with another which should be after about 80,000km of driving.

Regarding the bigger tyre, I have tried 265/70R17 on both my 3.2 Sport and my 2.5 Sport and each time took them off within 4,000km as it didn't agree with the ratios and turned the car into a sluggish dog and fuel consumption went up 10%.

If price is a concern, I would honestly rate the Velocity Raptor from Tiger Wheel. They do them in a 265/65R17 and we use them extensively in our fleet of bakkies now. Its the old General Grabber that is now made for Tiger and is a great option.

Thanks KoppyCat. Where do one buy the Hancooks? Are they the same price range as the Coopers?
No one however stated why the imported Dunlop AT3 is a bad tyre? For R1500 for At3 Grandtrek Dunlop, my head still want to point to that direction ... but not if it will endanger my life.

    Many thanks

I think the Grandtrek is standard issue on the FJ Cruiser and what I have now.

No problems and I hope to get 60 000km out of them. No problems on tar, wet or dry or sand ( I keep pressure above 1.0 ).

I had a Pajero Sport before the FJ, and got about 68 000 km out of my original tyres. Then I fitted Pirelli Scorpion ATRs. The Pajero immediately started to rattle and I even got Rola Motors to replace the front shocks. The ride was a lot harder on any tyre pressure than the original HP's on the Pajero Sport.

I think that the Pajero Sport is very sensitive to the type of tyres, or most Pajero's just start to rattle at 70 000 km?

    Hi Dirk
I have two of these tires on my Triton and so far no problems. If the two HT (sies!!) tires were more worn I would have replaced them as well but since they aren't worn that much my budget doesn't allow their replacement right now

I have not been off-road with them yet but on tar they are quieter than most and offer really good grip. They are possibly / arguably one of the better looking all terrain tires out there at the moment as well, depending on taste of course.

My only regret is that I took the standard size 245's instead of 265's but then I would also have had to do all 4 tires at the same time and as mentioned, the budget didn't (and still doesn't) allow that.

Good luck in choosing your tires

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Dunlop. We have quite a few of our fleet vehicles fitted with them, and these vehicles work hard. Granted, they are not the best, but no complaints.

I have always bought Hancook's from Tiger Wheel & Tyre. I think they are the agents. Not a cheap tyre at the moment, anywhere from R2500 to over R3000 depending on specials etc...

TWT used to be the only agents for Hankook but that has changed. I got a Hankook recently for R2200 from Hi-Q Bela-Bela, that was about R600 cheaper than TWT Fourways more than a year ago so definitely shop around when buying. Tyre size 265/65R17.

very happy with them a great all round tyre.

They not cheap, but buying cheap tyres is false economy in my book.

It has also been told to me by the gurus to do a 5 tyre rotation to keep the spare the same as the other four. Else the difference in circumference on a worn tyre to a new one could make the diff unhappy.
Make sense to me so I rotate every 7000km

So I went to Tiger Wheel to buy Hankooks - R2700 each - but - they had a Manager's special - R1885 for Yokohoma Geolander GO12 AT - good looking aggressive tyre - and silent ride.

So I took them - time will tell, this weekend is my first long trip.

Thanks for all the assistance to all
