    Default Hub Recovery

In the army up in Walvis Bay in the mid 60's we had a couple of Landrovers with projecting hubs on the rear wheels for sand recovery. Two days ago I saw a Landie with two German flag stickers on the back parked outside Longbeach Mall, in Sun Valley, Cape Town, that was fitted with the same hubs.
This is obviously a solution that can be used for Defenders, but other vehicle's wheels are not adapted for this ................ I do however believe there is a way to use the wheels of other 4x4's or 2x4's as a winch................... ANY IDEAS?

I saw a video of this somewhere? Guys used a tow strap, anchored it, and let the strap wrap around the tyre...

Have a look around the recovery section, there have been various discussions on the topic from the old landy hub winches to the local versions and a rather expensive Aussie version.

    Tha army was wrong. Again.

A capstan winch is something else entirely.

Ive seen something like it at Makro a while ago. You bolt it onto your wheelhub and use a strap to winch yourself out. Not sure if they still sell it though.

They tend to get damaged quite easily, and are PITA to use, as they don't wind up evenly
