    Cool Noob with a Jeep

    Hi

I'm new to the forum and have just purchased a 2005 Jeep Cherokee 3.7L Sport. Unfortunately don't have a pic of it yet.

I'm hoping to get some useful technical information and tips from the forum as well as explore the possibility of joining some other enthusiasts over a weekend to learn how to use my new toy properly.

One piece of info I am looking for immediately is to get the service interval details for my Jeep. Have tried searching in the Jeep section, but haven't been successful.

Nice stable, reliable engine although a little heavy on fuel.

Watch the front control-arm bushes for wear.

Friends/acquaintances have one and they haven't had much hassles even though they aren't big on errrrr.... spending money on maintenance and silly things like services.

In most cases in ZA, service petrol vehicles every 10,000km .

Find out what the major services entail, as well as the critical service items (cam belts etc).

    .
Also, check the from propshaft. Friend of mine sold his cherokee with the front propshaft safely tucked away in the boot.

Refused to pay in excess of R 5000 to have it fixed.

Overtime your wing mirrors will also fold in by itself - just drive > 90km/h.
The rear door will also start to squeak and rattle.

Quite thirsty, but at least the power is not too bad.... 155kw I think...

One more thing regarding the control arm bushes.... It's only available at the stealers and they will charge you to replace the complete control arms most likely. The prices therefore are sickening.

Try and import yourself from rockauto.com or do what I did - had the bushes made locally form Poly Urethane. Ask the guys as Mikem suspensions nicely...

    I am telling you Manny!!

Jeep engines and gearboxes are O.K (except for being thirsty)

The rest of the Jeep = not so much.
