    Default JMC Visit Today

So I popped into the JMC on Hendrik Potgieter today.
JMC includes Changan (those horrid Chana bakkies) & CMG which is earth-moving macines.

They were having an open day, so there was a carnival atmosphere.
All for the launch of the Vigus bakkie.

    I filled in a raffle & got number A8, the salesman & I agreed that if I got the main prize, a R15 000.00 discount, I'd buy a bakkie.

    The Vigus
    The Top-of-the-Range 4x4 2.4 costs R360k - a little too much in my view.
It is a big bakkie (Hilux size), the dash looks like the current KB dash with the centre drop down section.
There are two motors - the Ford 2.4 D which was used in the Ford Transit & Landy Defender prior to the introduction of the 2.2.
It pulls well & has enough grunt.
The Petrol motor is a Mitsubishi Motor, also 2.4.
I found the low range in the diesel to be too fast, a lot higher than in the Fortuner.
They are reasonably 'feature rich' but, like ALL Chinese bakkies, no diff lock.

Overall, not a bad effort. JMC has a relationship with Isuzu, but Ford owns 30% of the company.

    Boarding
Their workhorse bakkie is the JMC Boarding, basically the old Isuzu KB 280 DT with a different nose.
The basic (Standard) one is on special for R140k, which is a damn fine price.
I may need to buy one as my 2000 KB 280 DT is on nearly 410 000km & starting to struggle...

    Prizes
    Unfortunately not Dirk!
I was handed a bag which had a original Chinese JMC-branded hanging ornament & a JMC cap.

They then called my raffle number, I selected a balloon, hoping for the R15k discount one, but I won a lovely box set of JMC branded wine with two JMC wine glasses.

So all in all, 30 mins well spent...

I'll post pics of the prizes tomorrow...
BTW there were a few people from the Head Office present - maybe 4 or 5 of them, one being the big shot, very small slender man, very polite.
    They could barely speak English...
So clearly JMC is committed to their investment in SA.

    There, you have said it.

You will get a visit soon from the head JMC honcho telling you how utterly wrong wrong your info is.

No, they offer this info willingly. In fact the Vigus brochure lists the motors as:
    JX4D24 (Diesel) & Mitsubishi 4G69 MPi (Petrol).

The Boarding bakkie is an Isuzu, the salesman confirmed this...

    Agreed.
But in this case I said "This is the old Isuzu with a different grill & headlights".
And he said "Yes, it is."...

Better than the Land Rover salesman who told us, while on a test drive (a friend buying, not me), that the motor is the Disco 4 HSE TDV6 3.0 was a Citroen motor..."

Manny whoever said it was a citreon engine was half right. the tdv6 is a ford engine but it is used in the citreon C5 and C6, peugeot 407 and 607, Jag s type, xf and xj and ford territory plus disco and RR.

I also popped in at JMC today for quick check. Vigus not bad but way overpriced in my view. The 2.4 D pulls nicely but for that kind of money you would expect the engine to deliver at least 100 kw and 300nm it was targeting the GWM.

Top of the range should at least be R70k less.

The Boarding as you say. Old school Isuzu and at the specials they have at the moment on the Boarding, a good buy at that price.

100kw n 300nm thats better than a 250d almost as good as the 300kb. so i think those numbers not too shabby.
just checked for 2014 steed diesel is 80kw 300nm so bout the same,
the 2.2 defender is only 90kw - 360nm so again the pickup not bad.
the cummins tunland is 120kw- 360nm
even the king of nakkies the toyota with the 2.5d-4d is only 75kw - 200nm so the jmc has more power than toyota...

You make some valid points, but the 250D,the Steed Diesel 2.5, Toyota 2.5d are not the top of the range bakkies for each of these brands.

Let's make a comparison on the top of range bakkies between the JMC vs the GWM and even the TATA Xenon as these would be in my view the JMC's direct competition.

    Steed 5 DC (4x4) 2L VGT 110kw/ 310nm - Price R310K
    Xenon DC (4x4) 2.2L 110kw/ 320nm - Price R280k
    In comparison
    JMC Vigus DC (4x4) 2.4L 88kw/ 290nm - Price R379K

    Conclusion.
JMC is missing the plot a little with their pricing on the Vigus. It's not up their yet with Toyota, Isuzu, Ford, Amarok and en Thunlands in terms of quality. It's competition is more Steed 5 and Xenon.

Compare it to the top of range Steed and Xenon. It is about R60k to R80k more expensive. 2.4l Diesel underpowered in comparison, and relatively unknown in SA with very limited dealer network.
