    Thumbs down Give me hope!

After many years with Nissan (1 Hardbody and 2 Nivaras) I decided to try something new. Bought a new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 VVT Overland. Had it for a week and has now been back at the dealer for a week with a problem on the Adaptive Cruise Control with some link to the ABS (don't really understand their explanation). They now have to order a part from Jhb.

Although Jeep's after sales service has been good, I am really disappointed (and worried) that a brand new vehicle has a faulty part!?!

Anyone else experienced similar problem? And to the Jeep die-hards, will it get better from here?

A small faulty part can occur in any vehicle. I doubt if this is a serious issue.

The cruise control and the ABS probably uses the same sensor on the wheels to determine roadspeed or wheel lock. These sensors dont last forever, i had to replace one on my Merc ML as well. No biggy.

I bought the my 2012 GC Overland new and had a similar experience. Had the Jeep for about 2 weeks, when I realised it doesn't go into offroad level 2. It would go to off-road level one and from there the offroad-level 2 light would just blink forever. Took it back, and they had the vehicle for quite some time. Apparently there weren't that many people that knew how to trouble shoot this air suspension. After about 2 months of trouble shooting, they found the problem and it was fixed.

So at first I thought if this is the experience right from the start I might have just made a big mistake in buying this brand. But with 50 000 km's on the clock now, i've pretty much forgot about my disappointment of the first month or two. I've taken this grand pretty much everywhere and haven't had a single problem with it since then.

Might also mention that while my vehicle was with them, they always gave me a loan Jeep to use. Was actually quite nice, because I got to drive pretty much every model they had. Also had to go on holiday and they gave me the V8 Grand to use. So I suppos lots of cars have initial issues. Let them sort it out and then enjoy the vehicle. It will give you many years of good service.

Moving away from Nissan can only be a good thing - vehicles good, service support very negative.

The new generation vehicles are very very integrated electronically and if a sensor goes faulty somewhere it may affect various systems in the vehicle. The fact that they have had the vehicle for a week probably means that they are not exactly sure of the fault or it is an intermittent fault. Hence their decision to replace a complete part / unit is the safe one.

American vehicles are a bit over the top with bells & whistles and is can be a bit scary if you don't know every little function, sound and warning light.

Jeeps are good vehicles, get to know yours. A pity the new car excitement is spoiled by this glitch.

BigT I must say (please understand I'm not brand bashing) I have driven a Navara from brand new and must say :
    1) very dissatisfied with Nissans after sales customer treatment
    2) horrified by its build quality.

    But back to your question
Ja any vehicle can be crippled by a sensor, but the fact that they giving great after sales support shows you the quality of product you have bought. Give them a chance and determine the vehicle from that

dont stress. all vehicles are built from parts........suplied by the lowest bidder.
so parts do go faulty, even in brand new vehicles

Big T, that is a bit disappointing but you wont regret driving the Jeep. Great vehicles.
    Just remember:
Jeeps don't breakdown they only show you where there is opportunities for upgrades.

Dankie vir al die positiewe responses ouens. It is reasuring, I have hope

And for the record, the reason I am leaving Nissan is their after sales service (or lack thereof) as some of you experienced as well. Die Navara bly die no. 1 bakkie as dit by performance kom, my laaste een was die V9X (3L V6Td). Ek laat hom met 'n swaer hart gaan!

Rule in the past was that the first 20 000 km has "high" number of faults, 20 000 to 80 000 km was trouble free provided the initial issues were fixed. After 80 000 km the fault frequency started to increase. New cars are better but they are mass produced and there will be always some issues. If the cars were built like moon rovers used during Apollo trips they would last a lifetime without a fault but would be very expensive and who would be prepared to drive 60 years with the same vehicle.
