That's what we did - put all our insurance with them. I called them earlier to add the Fiat. He said I'd have the quote pronto, which was true . I think its about 5 to 10% cheaper than the best quote on that Hippo website, but with a much lower excess. But I'm not going to shop around because why would I .

It's not Isuzu. You can bet your botton dollar that the materials in use will not match the quality standards set by Isuzu. If used, that load bin is going to look like a corrugated sheet gone bad in nest to no time.

Unless they bought the complete motor direct from Isuzu (and didn't cast it themselves) it won't last.....

Here's one where I hope to be proven wrong, cause our local manufacturers needs somebody to force their prices down....

Hi Sakkie. Glad to prove you wrong. I bought a DC JMC Boarding 2.8 Turbo Diesel 4x4 in 2011. It's transported almost everything from sand, bricks, cement, tar poles, building stone and tiles. Nothing wrong with the bak at all. The tiles were transported about 400km towing a double axle trailer over the Outeniqua and Theekloof passes - both uphill with the trailer and load weighing 2.2 tons and 500kg of tiles and grout in the bak. The vehicle is used on the Great Karoo dirt roads and has yet to develop any rattles. It gets about 10 - 11 km per litre unloaded.

Faults since ownership:

Light motor to set the headlight angle when loaded failed - replaced with no questions under warranty. No problems since.
Oil leak turned out to be an oil filter O ring. Fixed under warranty. No questions.
Temperature gauge defective - Fixed under warranty, no questions.

Cons:

Fuel tank is small for the long distance Karoo (50 litres?).
Noisy engine. (Cab noise insulation)
Needs a sixth gear.
Crummy speakers.

Pros:

Excellent suspension on bad Karoo roads.
Nothing has come loose after almost 100 000km of bad Karoo roads.

It's intended as a farm bakkie but has luxury features all over.

Mooi man! Glad you're getting good service out of it.

Having said that, remember what you're up against when you're talking reliability and longevity. The Suz 280 diesels are now 15-25 years old, some of them well over half a million kms, and the nice ones still sell for close on R100k. The last new one bought was in 2003.....

Until that can be matched, my sentiments stand. 8)

Thank you Sakkie. The JMC is still very happy and parked next to an Isuzu Frontier 4x4 2.8 TD in the garage. The Isuzu has almost 400 000 km on the clock. Pic of the Izuzu for you.
