    Default Stolen?? Taillights??

So my brother parked at the local Spar in Weltevredenpark on his way home on Monday night.

10 minutes later when he gets back to his Hilux he found the scene below.

They had to open the canopy and tail gate, remove the screws and "click" the lights out. They closed the tail gate and canopy and left three of the screws behind. An eyewitness saw them drive off in a silver BMW.

Seems if they don't take the Hilux they start stealing spares like in Moz. I suppose just another case of TIA...... or is it?

So now we have to lock our canopies even with no goods inside because fellow "humans" cannot keep their hands off our stuff.

This is common here in Mozambique, most local vehicles have a stainless steel strip pop riveted to the body over the indicators and lights, mirrors and windows have the registration number sandblasted into them.

Looks like the disease has spread to SA now

I remember they stole to font grill off parents VW microbus over a decade ago at PTA zoo. Those are real easy to steal, just need a screw driver, unscrew and off you go.

And not cheap to replace. Is it worth replacing the screws with a non-standard head - Torx for instance?

I have lost my tonnuea cover to midnight shopping about 6 months ago. They took everything, the cover, the rails and even the brackets.

Unbelievable. I would be a tad (read sarcastic tone) upset if I got back to my car and the just the tail lights, grill or bumper were stolen... Around 20 years ago my brother once walked outside and found his golf on bricks, all tires missing

Saw a program of a guy in the States that went from stealing cars to stealing airbags. Harder to trace and off course, the more you steal the more people need them. Made an absolute fortune.

A friend of mine that used to work for the AA got a call from a little old lady who said her car was "broken. It just won't go. th eengine runs but it won't go". Turns out they had put her car on blocks and stolen her wheels and she hadn't noticed. Didn't take my mate long to spot the problem ...

That's why we all fit lock-nuts with individual keys .

On the tail lights, at least they didn't damage the vehicle when removing them

How about insurance cover in this case?

Shame. I shouldn't laugh at the little old lady. Especially considering the airhead I have on myself lately... but that is rather funny. Your friend must have had a difficult time keeping a straight face
