You proved your own point when you bought a Tuna thinking it was the ultimate option. There's one born every minute. As far as exclusivity goes......

    Default Toyota Fortuner Price Freeze

    I wanted a Bakkie-based SUV.
There were three; Everest, Fortuner & Pajero Lite.
    I chose the Fortuner because:
The Everest was not as good off road & was 300mm longer.
    The Dealer network.
The Pajero-Lite is a better vehicle, but in SA, the company behind it is far inferior.
I'm not certified as insane, so a Sssangwrong was not an option, besides, it's ugly & not bakkie-based...

The rexton might have more luxuries but driving around with a brown paper bag over ones head gets old very quickly.

I think brown paper bags should be std issue on the purchase of any Toyota.

I did. Was going to go DC, with the Ranger in mind, then looked at the Everest - but she is an ugly beastie and was too big for my garage with the wheel on the back. Have 2 mates with Tuna's that have been absolutely everywhere. Did the Lebombo in one, towing an Xcape, it was just what I needed. Book price was R450k, got it for R413K in March 2012. Just had it's 70k service, hasn't missed a beat, very happy with it.

I wish you'd take that Rexton W for a spin. I'd be interested to see what you think. Positive & negative.

I did my research - the Fortuner was perfect.
Was also the best bakkie-based SUV on the market for my needs taking all factors into account.

Yes, I do miss the thrill & excitement of break downs, the adrenalin rush of trying to source spares & the gut wrenching challenge of finding a dealership somewhere... maybe.
    I'm boring that way...
    I was being sarcastic. :-(

I would be the wrong oke, I am no petrolhead at all, but I might do it anyway, just to irritate a salesman. The issue is that it would have to be a long drive. I would need to compare it to Lebombo with caravan, Moz and CKGR with trailer, 5 days in Kruger with family, Sani etc, before I could give it an opinion. Might even try the Trailblazer, even though Chev gives me a rash ...

I am willing to concede I might not be driving technically the best SUV (bakkie based or otherwise), but in the back of my mind, I know I can get into it and go, and know that it's getting there and back (provided I don't drive like a chop - but that counts for everyone) and if I have an issue there is support around every corner.

Edit - I keep my vehicles for a long time. The Hilux was 11 years and 400,000km, before that my panel van was 400,000km and 8 years. I think buying cars is like trading in precious metals, so don't look to me for motoring advice, I have no cred.

I believe that the Fortuna would be the very best car on the road, if it's price was more reflective of the package you are getting.

See if they'll fall for that. They might be negotiable :-)

Must admit it's starting to look a bit more like a Fortuner so not as bad anymore:-)

But if you are planning on doing overlanding and you want to rig out the car you have to a special kind of stupid not to take the Fotuner that has every conceivable extra available off the selves , winch plates , rocksliders roofrack long range tanks etc..

& you think the Tuna is pretty? :-)

The Rexton was designed by Guigario of Italdesign, whereas the Fortuna was designed by Sum Fing Wong of Toyota

Only a special kind of stupid buys that stuff off the shelves & ends up paying more for less.
