    Default Opinions on ML270 please

    A friend of me is looking at a 2000 ML 270 CDI with about 200 000km on the clock for R80k.

    What is your opinion on this vehicle? Any known issues to look out for? I'm sure theres tons of stuff on this vehicle that can cost a fortune to fix but I don't have any first hand experience with them

    Must I tell him to walk away?

    Just a service could be 20000 or more....

    Die ouer MLs het klaarblyklik heelwat elektries/elektroniese issues gehad...
    - My eie 430 : Geen issues nie.
    Die ouer MLs was klaarblyklik nie opgewaase vir veldry nie ....
    - My eie 430 was nou nie 'n veroweraar van graad5 roetes nie, maar ek het heel gemaklik op Kanada se vrot bosbou-agterpaadjies gery en net eenmaal vasgeval toe ek in ons dorp se agterplaas vier gate misgekyk het wat my vier wiele totaal uit die traksieprentjie geneem het!

    Die 270 in die besonder was 'n masjien wat heelwat probleme gegee het in die ML. die masjien was nie ontwikkel vir so 'n groot bakwerk nie en daar was maar probleme...Veral wat elektroniese sensors in die diesellyne betref...en ook in die uitlaatgasse....Daar was remedies wat baie duur gekos het - deur die agente - en daar was remedies wat baie goedkoop was as jy net 'n skroewedraaier in die hande kon kry....
    Moet my asseblief net nie quote op die bogenoemde nie....maar ek sal nie die 270 koop nie...mens weet nooit hoe die vorige baas/base die kar opgepas het nie...
    En ja die onderhoudkoste kan nogal hoog raak....maar ek dink R20 000 vir 'n diens is onakuraat....die enigste diens waar ek so duur betaal het op 'n Merc was toe my huidige 200 kompressor se voorste suspensie uitgesorteer moes word....Diens was net minder as R 2000 maar die ekstra werk was meer as R20 000! Duurste diens was R 9 000.....

    The Ml270 has the same motor and gearbox as the Jeep 2.7 crd, the E270 cdi, the Merc c class 270 etc. Actually quite bullet proof if looked after.

    Service will be oils, filters and that is it. Can maybe change the plugs

    Remove engine covers and check for black death around injectors.

    Check for excessive smoke.
    Recon of injectors will cost about R1800-00 each. Budget for that.

    Gearbox- If it is still going at 200k then the electroplate has most probably been replaced already. This is the Achilles heel of the merc boxes. Mercedes will charge about R18000-00 for the complete "electric plate kit"
    Imported one for under R2000-00 with shipping.
    Otherwise the Merc boxes are rock sollid.

    Dis maar wat ek bedoel.... die dienste is nie so erg nie, maar die ekstra werk, en daar is baie extra werk...
