Default Ihaha Campsite Kasane - Safety

We would like to Book Three Nights at Ihaha Campsite in Chobe National Park for August 2015.

We have heard horror stories of Robberies and Thugs raiding the Campsites. Is this True?

    Did anybody experienced this ?

    Robberies ?
I heard from thefts by the villagers from across the river, but meanwhile the police is patrolling the area of the camp site at night.

I followed a guy in a mekoro and shone some lights on him then he pretended to do the fishing thing - at close to midnight (!!)
Moved away after he was exposed.

But "yes" lock away your obvious stuff when camping there.

Walter is right ,more a baboon problem than a theft problem BDF are on full alert now ,so I would t worry too much about the theft side ,still keep cars locked ,never know there might be a clever baboon lurking there

Just stayed three nights at #5 / #6 no problems what so ever, thrash bins gets emptied by a big male baboon every morning unless you lock the lid with a wire or a cable tie, no other problems. Someone is patrolling the camp at night, i heard them but no one else in my Family did, felt safe but locked the car to be sure. Would go there Again anytime.

I think the problem is more that if it can be seen it can be stolen, keep temptations as minimal as possible, and take on any Namibian floating around on a Makoro.
We were robbed at Ihaha in 2010 and the 2 buggers are still in jail in Kasane they will be released in December and deported. If you see suspicious behavior report it, shoot to kill is the policy, ask the Zambian families about last week in Chobe.
