Default Trailer damage - never give up!!

Last Thursday one custom built trailer in out group 'broke' just behind the towhitch, resulting in the trailer hitting the deck. This happened some 70kms from the nearest civilisation at Askham, where nothing much in the line of stores can be found anyway.

The forum was undergoing upgrades so we couldn't contact anyone here for help, it was a public holiday and everything was closed, and the garage owner we were refered to wasn't at home. A friendly gentleman in town assisted us by cutting a piece of old channel, drilling holes, supplying bolts & nuts and fitting a tow hitch to it.

The neck of the trailer was cut off with a borrowed hacksaw, the channel fitted and holes marked. My 12v hand drill managed a hole or two before the battery ran out, and we didn't have the charger. So we opened up the battery, connected wiring and clipped the drill to the quad's battery.

The holes were drilled and the channel tightly bolted to the old a-frame to create a new neck. A U-bolt from the recovery kit rounded of this fix and we were confident that we would be able to move the trailer to the nearest welding plant at Askham on Saturday.

Come Friday morning though a local inhabitant arrived on the scene with about 6 helpers and a petrol welder. They quickly welder all the joints and the trailer has today arrived safely back at its home in Bloemfontein.
