Default Road Report Request : Maun to Shakawe

Planning to do the panhandle in September. (Again) Anybody driven the A35 in the last while? I believe it is a little potholed these days. How bad is it? Better than the Kasane /Nata road used to be, I hope?

    Hi,

"a little potholed" is a bit euphemistic. We have been there in November and it has been very potholed, really deep and huge holes.
Most of them you cannot drive through and you have to drive around. Fortunately there is usually not so much traffic so that oncoming vehicles are not an additional danger.
But they are working on it. Maybe they have done some more kilometres until your trip in September!

Watch out for speed controls. We never saw so many as on that stretch.

Enjoy the panhandle, it is great

Thanks Mabe, that's is what I have heard. Have you been on the Maun to South Gate road lately? Same question.

Yes, we went Maun to South Gate after the visit of the Panhandle.

Much better, gravel and only 75 km of corrugation

There are good stretches, medium stretches and bad stretches all mixed up - you drive at 100kph in places, then 80, then 60 and at times very slowly through or round huge potholes - expect to average about 50 kph.
