I have done the following modifications to my Xcape:

    1) a LED light strip on the inside of the outside kitchen (wired up together with the outside light)
    2) two hella plugs on the awning side for extra lights in the tent (fitted high next to where the awning poles attaches so the light cable can be routed along the horizontal awning poles)
    3) a 240 volt three-point plug next to the kitchen opening / underneath the window fitted on the outside
    4) a LED light for some light in the bed area and serves as a bed lamp
    5) the battery was loose in the battery box and I have secured the battery with a clamp
    6) a switch on the battery so that I can switch off the 12 volt power when the van is not in use.

NB Sorry I don't have pictures, the van is not parked at my home.

    External table
    220v external Powerpoint
Hella plug at front near gas bottles and near 220v plug
Reticulated gas pipe through Xcape body
Internal cigarette lighter plug for cellphone charging etc.
Flexible reading light over bed (going to add another one)
Going to add another swiveling internal light as well; like the ones it came with.
Going to do the LED light in the kitchen as described by lrswb above.
Not really a modification but I found a cool little item to fasten the tent elastic under the fold out bed. Made by NiteZ I think - cannot remember the name but could get it. Saves a lot rather than trying to tie knots.

Thanks for responding Mike and LRSWB!!

    Some interesting and nice mods!!

I am planning to do the LED light in the kitchen and add two or three Hella's for the lights.

Has anyone done the bigger fridge mod with maybe a picture or two??

I know it fits, and I know you need to take the handles off, but do you need to built a new base plate?? How do you secure the base plate?? And how does one fasten the fridge then to the base plate??

    Thanks

We decided not to go the bigger fridge route because it's usually only me and my wife. While we travel we prefer to pick up the food as we go and as it takes our fancy. A fully packed freezer means you forego the chance of spontaneous lekker stuff in the places you visit and when it looks so good - feel obliged to have what's in the fridge. Having said that, when we're on a long trip without immediate access to shops etc then I'd make another plan. Just rather not modifying what already works so well in the XCape.

There is a thread that speaks of the mod you refer to. Also had pictures if I remember correctly.

Thanks again Mike, I did a quick search and only saw a picture with the fridge fitting inside that gap, done by Mur2. Did send him a PM, still waiting.
((I'm looking for some pics of the bracket and how they secured it))

But I must say, I agree! I will rather then just build a drawer-system for the new vehicle that can take the bigger fridge on a slide.

    Regards

Loftus Caravans used the standard National Luna base plate that was in my caravan when I bought it new from them.

A new Xcape owner waiting to take delivery very soon. Come on Paul time to resuscitate this thread! Come all you Xcape owners; lrswb, mur2, Armand etc.

Got our Xcape back from Loftus last week after the first service. Got them to add another reading light, another swivel light on the cupboard and a small led strip in the kitchen. All done beautifully as was all the other work. Again, well done Loftus.

    Hi Mike

Got mine back yesterday and asked them to add a cupboard to the door for glasses, tea, coffee, spices etc. not sure if it was a good idea, but it's done so I will see how it goes. It has made packing very practical.

Please send me some pictures of your modifications. I could always use the tips.
We are leaving for the long weekend in an hour with my friend Tony who also owns an xCape. I will let you know if I get any more ideas.

There we go! The nicest camper out there in my opinion and we've been tjoepstil on the forum as owners. Thanks Clive, Thole, Paul.

I'm sitting in Clarens for the long weekend (without the Xcape can you believe it (but with my bike I have to admit)) so once I get back to Johannesburg I'll make a concerted effort to get pictures of all the modifications we've done and post them here.

I like that square tube for the tent poles Thole, and the other mods. Well done.

Clive - can you post a picture of the cupboard you've added - I think I know what you mean and it seems like a good idea.

When do you expect delivery Paul? Is Friday looking good?

Brilliant - look forward to it mur2.

Looking at the other fan club type threads we're well on our way here. A great little offroad van and it deserves a vibrant thread - let the posts roll.

A neat addition that I use - not quite a mod but still - I had an extender pole made up for each of the two awnings. I used the clip on attachments on each end and use them to 'reinforce' the awnings. Simply clipped to the extension poles at about halfway so that the extra pole spans the awning. This makes the awning way more stable in wind and helps in rainy weather to reduce pooling on the roof.
