    Default "Rou melk"

    .. on-gepasteuriseer
    .. on-gehomogeniseer

We were talking about this last night. Real full cream milk, with an inch of cream floating on top. Yum. Even pasteurized milk had it. Skim milk used to be the same as full cream milk is today, what is called skim milk now was actually called whey - the water left over after you made cheese...

Good taste in milk, but we need to talk about your coffee problem!

We get it freshly milked every second day from next door neighbour. It is still warm.

I made box for two glass bottles to go get it. Reminds me of days we put glass bottles out with coupons..

My other next door neighbour takes the cream off the the top and makes butter. I made him little 1lb moulds to make blocks. Unbeatable.

And there is nothing wrong with milk like that, I drink at least 500ml a day

You must have a hell of an understanding neighbour.

Do you milk him yourself or does he do it for you?

Giving my age away now, but I remember having to spoon the cream off the top before you could get to the milk. Loved it but *sigh* my achey, breaky heart....

I read somewhere that to get the watery part and the creamy part of milk to become like it is when you get it out of the sakkie, the pump massive amounts of milk through a wafer tool forms pressed together at a massive force. It fuses the water and cream together....

Wie van julle ken suurmelk , gemaak in 'n kalbas , van volroom melk ? Dis wat ek daagliks drink .
Melk , seker die mees volledige voedsel , word nog steeds nie na waarde geag nie .

Apparently people who are lactose intolerant have no reaction to unpasturised milk because the bacteria that break down the lactose is alive in the milk.

I dont like the town version of milk (it tastes like pva water) but you must get used to real milk, it will give you the runs in the beginning if you drink too much

Oms het vir byna 25 jaar gemelk, as die melk in die tenk afgekoel het het ons daagliks 5 liter vars melk getap. My kimders het op vars melk grootgeword. Baie melk gedrink en baie melkkos gemaaak.

    Vars melk is heerlik!!!!!!

The reason why unpasteurised milk is not available is because TB can be carried in milk. You need just one TB positive cow to contaminate a whole batch, and she does it day after day, and before you know it you'll have a serious epidemic under the recipients of that milk.

Yep I know, it is not nice when I beautiful nostalgic daydream gets shattered by an ugly fact.

The dairy farms around here supply the Nestle factory in Mossel Bay. The truck draws the milk every day...and it is tested on a regular basis. Feedback is passed to farmers, as it effects everybody up and down the chain.

On milking of cows by the local population...I cannot make a judgement.

Raw milk was always used in my home. My family and I moved to the "city" a few years ago and we now have no option but to use the watered down stuff sold at supermarkets...

Travelling in Africa can often be very tough but is always extremely rewarding.

You guys make me think about early mornings on our farm. Milking and then using the separator to split the cream and milk and then in the afternoons making butter and you couldn't get better milk then the milk from our jersey cows

Sorry I don't drink milk, not even for breakfast, since 3 years old. Its brille, pille and whiskey now.
