I would honestly suggest that with 18 days your plan of going from the Moremi up North is fine, but coming back the same route is a bit boring and will be a waste of precious time. On your way up visit all the areas/parks that you wish to. Then from Kasane you can come back via Hwange (Masuma and Ngweshla preferred camps) to Eliphant Sands and then back home. You will then meet your own goal of spending most of your time in "Parks/the wild".

    HI DWG
Khwai is a fantastic spot. Just make sure about the rate per night. There were some rumours earlier on this forum about the Khwai community inflating their rate to P270 pppn. Then it also depends who pitches up to collect the money at night. The community has an office in Maun but in December in might be best to book via web site. Last I heard they still did not take card payments and therefore, if you pay upfront you have to do a cash bank deposit. Very expensive. Khwai is a must.

    Thanks Vathomtuis!
Trying to book 2 nights at Khwai Community. Only heard good things about it!
I'm just not sure about water crossings alone that time of year??
Any comments on water level there around Dec?

Hi Puma. I understand the game there isn't the best.
However, I'd love to see this area, camp and definitely the dogs
-amongst the top of my list.

Any advice on good campsite numbers?
The ones I'm concerned about are:

    Savuti #5 (4 and paradise taken )
    Xakanaxa #6
    Ihaha #2

    Thanks.

Savuti 5 is away from the channel if my memory serves me correctly ,it is tucked away amoungst the Kalahari Apple leaf trees ,stiff walk to abloutions in the thick sand ,but should not be so bad in Dec .Xakanaxa 6 is a good site 50 meters from abloutions ,nice big area with 3 huge trees ,and it is flat ,no 5 is a shitty site on a slope .Cannot comment on Ihaha no 2 ,have not been there for a long time ,buy what I can wrn you about ,are the bloody baboons there at present ,I spoke to a women a month or so ago who got attacked by a baboon at Ihaha on their 1st day ,so they packed up and left .Toilets are crappy ,so to speak ,never any hot water ,camp staff are very slack .
Khwai community you pick your site when you get there ,I love 1 and 2 or 8 .But in Dec no 2 could be a bit warm ,only got one tree ,but it is on the river and the dogs run right through no 2 all the time .Here s a photo of no 2.

No2 looks Epic! Shade I can make, but that open view looks just perfect.
Savuti 5 does not sound like my cup of tea...
Can you remember which sites at savuti is close to the channel and first choice options? (after paradise and #4)

2 or 3 are on the channel ,I stay at 2 when I can ,bit of an up hill walk to toilets but worth the effort .Problem is with Savuti ,you must take what you can get ,send me your e mail address will tell you something about Savuti !!

Are you sure about picking your site yourself at Magotho? We had a dedicated number last year and this year as well, although this year is number 22, I have no clue where that is, probably an imaginary camp site.
Last year we stayed at #2 which was a great spot, but with little shade - no dogs .
    Going back to Botswana/Namibia 2016
Listing to VHF 145.250 and APRS 432.500.

I can confirm that 5 is away from the channel.
I tried to load a pic of the camp layout if you can zoom in and see.
2,3 and 4 on the channel. My picture is of CV4. also for those that have not seen the channel a picture from 4.
    Elephants love 2, 3 and 4.
Only gripe is 4 has thick sand so a ground sheet of sorts helped around the kitchen area.

Henry ,it depends on how busy they are ,in the past when the daily rates were lower ,you could not get a place at all ,often I had booked a site ,like no 2 ,and got there ,to find it already occupied by some other campers ,then was told to go and find a tree .I go there 4 ,5 times a year ,so they know me there .As far as the dogs as concerned ,what time of the year did you go ,Dec ithe best time for them ,as they hunt the new born impala lambs at will ,I have seen 4 kills in one day ,by the same pack .

I Just got invoiced by Khwai Community trust for camping.
Response from them is really slow and delayed. I have asked questions but without answer so I thought I'd bring it here...

They charge a daily rate of R400pppn
By the looks of it, it does not include park and vehicle fees... Is park entry still extra? Am I missing something here? Would love to go there, but this seems a bit steep.
I Don't want to make this thread about complaining about escalating camping fees but just need to clarify if this is correct?

There ae no park fees for Khwai ,only camping ,looks like it has gone up again ,was P340 in Dec or there abouts ,Tara could shed some light on that ,so you will have to pay extra for the park as well .

Hi Leonie/Deon, thanks for taking the time to reply to this thread.
May I ask how was the double booking?-The only reason I don't want to go there...
I have heard the area is great but read about many complaints regarding double booking...

    Default Vic falls day trip

Is someone able to tell me?
Is it possible to do a day trip from Ihaha to Vic falls or is this too far?

We are in Ihaha for 5 nights and would be great to dart of to Vic falls for one of the days whilst at Ihaha.
If I need to move camp for this, it would require 2 nights elsewhere just to go to Vic falls for the day inbetween.

Im hoping to go to Makgadikgadi after Ihaha without additional stopovers as our holiday only has a certain nr of days left from here...
I intend to live forever... So far so good.
