    Default Newbie info for Botswana

    Hi

Would like some info from the experts.

I am sure that somewhere someone answered this question before in the forums, but I was wondering if there is a list about the goods you're allowed to take into Botswana. That is except the list of alcohol and the 25kg of meat.

Heard some people had problems with dairy products and eggs, etc.

    Thanx.

We have just returned from a trip which took us from Martins Drifty via Francistown to Kasane and back. We were allowed through all of the vetinarary stops going North with no problem, since we told them we had meat for our own consumption. This was much less than 25kg in any case.
Coming back into Botswana from Vic Falls we were told not to bring fresh meat or fresh milk which we did not have. They checked our vehicles fridges and let us through with no problem. We were stopped at one other checkpoint where the same applied.
We were warned not to travel from Martins Drift to Francistown via Selebe Phikwe with meat or milk and had to make a detour.
We found all officials friendly and helpful and just doing their job.

    Default Roads?

    Thanx, for the reply

I presume the biggest problems is on dairy (milk...) and the meat then.

    Just one other question:

Anyone who have used the routes through Moremi, Kwai and Savuti the last two weeks?

Want to know the road conditions. And I presume a trailor is out for those roads?

Sorry can't help you with that route. However, from Nata going North for 200km the road is very badly potholed.

Aah, answering my own question, got this info from http://www.botswanatourism.co.bw/get...uirements.html

The following consumer goods may be imported for private use without an import permit provided they do not exceed the maximum allowable quantities.
Red meat, goat/lamb 25 kg per family
Poultry meat 5 kg per person
Tinned poultry meat 20 kg per person
    Eggs 36 eggs per person
Fresh milk 2 litres per person
Maize and maize products 25 kg per person
    Wheat 25 kg per person
Pulses (beans, peas, lentils) 25 kg per person
Sorghum and sorghum products 25 kg per person
    Cabbage 1 bag per person
    Onions 1 bag per person
    Potatoes 1 bag per person
    Oranges 1 bag per person
    Tomatoes 1 box per person
    Choumollier 2 kg per person
    Rape 2 kg per person
    Spinach 2 kg per person
    Bread 6 per week
The regulations on importing meat and meat products change frequently because they are based on disease outbreaks in different countries, always ask your nearest customs office before importing meat and meat products.
