    Default Riverwild in Lowveld

    Anyone been there?

It's North West of the Sudwala caves, west of Nelspruit...

Well, I'm on my way there...so I'll just let you know if the 4x4 route is worth the R300...

    Default Riverwild in Lowveld

As Rudolph said, GGX had a GTG there in September 2013. All arranged by Pat (Skim).

    Read all about it here:
    http://4x4community.co.za/forum/show...auteng+lowveld
I'd describe the track as nice, but not challenging.

Howzit... The week is starting again :banghead:

Anyway. Went to "The River Wild" and it was wild.

Firstly, I did not do the river crossing because the other bank had too much of a wall to get out of.

Secondly, "Badger Drive" & "Crocodile Cry" was too bad. I felt that I could damage my vehicle.

Further was nice, but "Shongololo" was closed - impossible to ride there.

Then I wangled the LWB through "Rock Spider" which was dry, but very nice...that was extreme for me in my books-so maybe the objects that felt impossible for me was possible after all... I believe "River Rat Run" was not as deep as normally.

Mother enjoyed it a lot though...her first time doing such "extreme" objects if I can call it that.

Here is me in "Rock Spider":

I would definitely recommend it...BUT not for the "sissies" like me and not for your standard family 4x4 vehicle...

I would not like to take on that trail when it's wet...TOO much MUD!

    BlomCo, glad you enjoyed Riverwild.

As a matter of interest, what tyre pressure were you on? Those tyres look like they haven't been deflated.

    Hi LandyAndy,

I was on 65%...for my vehicle being 1.4 bar. I've got balloons on there so I probably could've gone a bit more flat.

    Something interesting that I've learned:
When in a rocky section, when I was in the "Rock Spider", and you don't want the vehicle to 'body roll' or move suddenly when hit the brakes when you want to stop - because this happened to me. I came down with a heavy angle into the rocky section, and I believe my vehicle's angle of approach was just fine, but when my front right wheel hit a ditch/hole, I stepped on the brakes. With the 'body roll' (or whatever one calls the weight momentum or inertia) my vehicle "rolled" and it nicked the nudge bar at the bottom front, but luckily not very hard that something broke or even bent for that matter.

What I found that works good to have more control over your vehicle, is to drive with the handbrake on. Not all the way up, but just halfway so that your vehicle can still drive with some power from your engine, but just enough handbrake to stop any sudden rolling movements over stones or rocks when you suddenly remove you foot of the gas pedal.

Excuse me if this is OLD news...but I'm still learning

Pity some of the iconic routes are damaged due to some heavy rains. Always a leka route. Had some serious damages and war stories on my defender there when its raining.

Riverwild was vir my nie so nice nie. Ek het baie van Hamiltons oppad Hazyview gehou.

Ek is nie seker of hul nog oop is nie maar dit is n lekker trail.
