    Default Fortuner accident in Etosha

I have just come back from a Namibian trip and was horrified to find this scene on route between Halali and Namutoni.

This is clearly a very different picture one expects to come across while on a early morning game drive. I am really hoping that all that were in the vehicle were not not injured albeit it appears that the vehicle has taken quite a beating.

One thinks of all the planning and excitement that went into this trip and to have it start or end on this note is saddening.

    Default Fortuner accident in Etosha

    I see the airbags popped.

Dunno how many stories I have read where the airbags don't deploy in a rollover.

That model is the latest model Fortuner, 2 models after the 'Rollover Edition'.
It has VSC & (I believe) TC.

So I'd like to know what happened.

What speed to you guys think he was doing?

Judging by one of the pics
The driver let the car drift to far left or right on the edge
    Rear end started to drift
    And corrected the wrong way
Could have been letting an oncoming vehicle pass
Either way speed vs driver ability was the error
    Hope all were ok
Manny your knowledge of the fortuner models is scary ??

A good polish and it look like new again .

Let's assume there is a reason for the manoeuvre preceding the roll-over, but speed is most certainly an issue

Max speed 30 kpu as far as I remember there. How on earth roll one a car at that speed. Even I you over corrected it. By the damage, I think the speed must have been a bit higher than that.

Sorry for the occupants hope they are well.

Over inflated tyres for gravel road plus speed?

Sad, I suspect the damage on the other side of the car that we can't see is worse looking at the roof.

If they were wearing seat belts there probably weren't major injuries, especially as the airbags deployed.

However this is one of those situations where unsecured heavy items in the car could be the killer. Battery packs, fridges etc.

Unfortunately the OP never checked tyre pressures - Typical Cape Townian - no attention to detail.

I dont think he was going that fast... if he was really moving it he would have sheered the wheels and hubs off...

I suspect it was a family from Cape Town (CA Plates) who drove up on holiday.
I suspect they stopped in at Gobabis Toyota on their way up & had the Gobabis Conversion done.
They probably weren't used to the massive power increase & drove a little faster than they normally do.

Quack! Quack! Just be happy I referred to the OP as a "Typical Cape Townian", I was going to go with "Jeep Driver"...
