    Default Special Campsites Serengeti

    Hi again,

    oncemore I have a question:
Are there any special campsites north of Lobo-district?
And: any special campsite near Embakai-crater in Ngorongoro?

I`was searching the web all the afternoon but didn't find any information.

    Thank you
    Beate

No doubt you have been on the Tanzania National Parks website. There are special campsites throughout the Serengeti and, I think around Lobo. I will check our Serengeti map and get back to you in a day or so. Special campsites need to be booked through TANAPA HQ in Arusha which is complicated for out of country independent travellers.

    Thank You, Wazungu Wawili,

yes, I've been on the website of Tanzania National Parks. But they don't tell you exactly, if and where there are these special campsites.
On my map I see some "Camps", but this means, they are owned (or only occupied?) by tour operatores.

I'd like to hear from you again.

The Giovanni Tombazzi 2003 map of the Serengeti marks two special campsites near Lobo - Lobo 1 and 2 near the eastern boundary of the park. Also marked are Bologonja 1, 2 and 3 which are further north near the Bologonja gate. In fact, Bologonja 3 is almost on the Kenyan border.

A travel agent in Arusha will be able to tell you if they are still special campsites and book for you as necessary. They could be block booked by safari operators.

    Good luck.

    Hi Wazungu Wawili,

thank you so much. Now I have names of the special campsites, so I can ask the company, where we rent our camper from, to book these sites for us.

I could find these places on a pictured map for tourists, which I got last time we where here.

I think, Bologonja 1 and 2 could be nice. This is the area which we where thinking of. Bologonja 3 is a little to near of the border.

    Thank you
    Beate

Default Special Campsites in the Serengeti

You are welcome, Beate. You do know that special campsites are just pieces of Africa with no facilities or water? There is a public campsite at Lobo which has long drop toilets and a standpipe for water, but doesn't have showers.

You might find that the special campsites are block booked by safari operators, but good luck.

    Hi,

I know, and this is wonderful. Being totally alone between all this animals in that amazing surroundings. We love it.
We were in Serengeti 2 years ago, at Lobo public campsite and at Tumbili in Seronera.
But we also were at special campsite at Moro Rock (beautiful) and special campsite in Ndutu.
So this year we try to go a bit more north of Lobo. Therefore Bologonja should be fine.

    Thank you
    Beate

    Hi,

I just want to tell you:
I got the information from our car-rental-company, that they could book for us the Bologonja special campsite, the Moro Kopje special campsite and the Embakai-Crater special campsite.

    Now I'm happy.

    Beate
