    Default Help with Trailer Wiring

    Trailers here with lights are not commonplace, so as a result, there are no readily available wiring kits/looms. Does anybody have a wiring diagram or some info on how I can go about wiring in a coupler for my trailer on a 2006 Hilux 4x4 D4D? Does Toyota provide any connectors to wire in an aux loom, or do I need to start splicing wire? Many thanks in advance.

    HI
    The S.A.B.S no 1327-1981 standard wiring setup is as follows,
    on the plug numbers,
    1= Left indicator
    2= Auxiliary
    3= Earth
    4= Right indicator
    5= Right tail light
    6= Stop light
    7= Right tail light

    5 gets bridged to 7

    Ive got the workshop manual on the KZ-TE Hilux, will go through it and see if I can post pics of the wiring for this.

    Could not come write with the manual,
    Toyota is usually pritty jacked when comming to this sort of thing, I would expect there to be ready made connections fitted somewear near the towbar area and they would usually use a standard colour coding. I'll check tomorow on my camry for the colourcode and let you know.

    The connections and colour code for the plug is as follows.

    pin 1----L/H indicator-----Yellow
    pin 2----Rear fog light or supply to caracan/trailer-----Blue
    pin 3----Earth------------White
    pin 4----R/H indicator-----Green
    pin 5----R/H tail light------Brown
    pin 6----Stop light--------Red
    pin 7----L/H tail light------Black

    What the colour code of the car is I don't know. This could be quite different. The German cars normally use brown for the earth.

    Hope this helps

    thanks for the info guys. I have the colours, etc, but was wondering more what provisions Toyota has made for connecting an aux loom to allow for trailer wiring. I can't seem to locate anything, so I'm guessing the only option is to splice wires and connect into the main harness. Not ideal

    rjb.

    My KZ (may she rest in peace) had a plug, and I got a harnass with a caravan plug on the other end which I just had to plug in! Can't remember where the plug was located, but I think it was somewhere in the left rear corner of the vehicle. I am sure that the d4d will have one somewhere as well.

    The wiring connection on the Hilux is behind the tail lamps. Wiring loome for Toyota std towbars has two electrical plugs one for the RHS & the other for the LHS. Remove tail lamps unplug wiring to lamp & plug in tow bar wiring loome.

    Thanks for the info - will check it out tonight. Guess I'll need to order a loom and pick it up in SA in June. Dealer here hasn't a clue
