Hi Guys! Some of us are going up Bezuidenhouts and down Retiefs Pass on SAturday (17/05/2014) We will braai at the top of Retiefs at Lunch time. Who wants to come along??

A gravel pass in KZN between Harrismith and Bergville - in the vicinity of the Sterkfontein Dam. The pass starts at 1349m ASL and summits at 1751m. It is 5,6 km long producing an ascent gradient of 1/14 making it very steep.

We went up Bezuidenhouts a year ago coming from Geluksburg side and then you need a vehicle with high clearance. It was not an easy task but with some planning and rock moving we managed. After all the rain I suspect it to be worse.

For Retiefs Pass you need permission and payment from the Owner. Do you have it?

Is the pass on private land ?

If it is then I wonder how it became known as a pass ?
