Default Sticky - Use of 'General (non vehicle/technical) 4x4 Discussions '

The "General Chat" section should not be confused with the

    "Vehicle and Technical Chat"

If a thread's content is of technical nature, it should go in

    "Vehicle and Technical Chat"

If it relates to a specific brand, it should go there, eg Toyota / Nissan etc.

    "General Chat"
is for non-technical content. A good example is the Desert Lion Project

The mods will move threads to the appropriate sections, but members should actually be doing this!

    Thanks,

    Mods

    PLEASE!

I looked at the current first page in "General chat", and 50% of the threads had to be moved to the correct section!

Please scan through the Index before starting a thread, and find the correct Section.

Please explain the difference between General Chat and the Pub - its something that's been confusing to me since I joined.

This is how I understand it:

General chat is for exactly that, general chat around 4x4 issues

The pub is for general chat for all non-4x4 related issues like rugby, computers, jokes, etc, etc

    The Pub
Off topic chat area, from the latest to IT questions may be posted here. Please keep it clean and family orientated, or your post WILL be deleted.
    General
On topic discussion area, for anything that does not fit anywhere else. Please restrict to relevant site content.
A simple definition would be that "The Pub"'s content can be deleted on a regular basis, and nobody would lose anything important.
(Many forums delete threads in the pub which are older than a month).
Call it "nonsense around the camp fire", if you like.

General is "valuable" (technical) content, relevant to the forum, but does not quite fit into any other section.
(It's NOT a section to dump everything, for the mods to move to the correct section! )
It should have long-term value as well.

    MHO.

    Please!

It is now 6 days since I last "bumped" this thread.

We are trying to make this the best 4x4 forum, not only in South Africa, but in the whole world! For that reason the mods spend a lot of time keeping things tidy.
There are, however, things which the members can and should do. One of them is to post in the correct section.

Today I spent an hour moving 20 threads from this Section to the correct sections.

Some even had brand names in their titles, which should have made it easy to find the correct Section!

    From Dirk himself:

I am not sure if the members realise it, but each member have the rights to move their own threads.
If you realize the thread is in the wrong Section, just move it to the correct one, please.

    Your co-operation will be nice!

I think only originator (first poster of the thread) and mods can do this?

Moderation of the Section is still a nightmare, sort of.

Notice the new Section Title, as well as the new sub-title:

    General (non vehicle/technical) 4x4 Discussion.

Any 4x4 related topic, for which there is no other specific Section. OFF-TOPIC POSTS WILL BE DELETED!
The lame excuse that more people look at the "General" Section will not be accepted either.

The mods will no longer move (especially old members') threads to appropriate sections - they will be deleted.

Newbies could expect a bit of leniency, though

Your co-opeation to keep this the best and only forum for the offroad and 4x4 enthusiast is appreciated.

    Moderation team.
