    Default Hot Shower on my Landy

    A while ago I built a Shower on my Landy. It works well, but the only down fall is that it is only a cold shower. Whilst this is super when overlanding in Moz, it is a totally different story when up in Lesotho

    I have a Bots trip coming up in June, and I really did not fancy having to brave the cold water every day when going for a shower

    I have looked at all the posts relating to bush showers and heating water, from the Gerry can next to the fire, through to the oh so expensive Kariba water heater. There have also been some really innovative home builds, like this one from BigAl http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...heat+exchanger I was going to go with this option, but it is also just too expensive.

    I have seen many threads about the 6l Gas geysers, and have been mulling over how I would fit this to the Landy. I eventually put my thought processes to paper and worked out how the geyser can be quickly fitted and removed

    I went out and purchased the Geyser and all the fittings and set out to do the job

    First thing I bought some Maizey connectors and build a frame on to which I mounted the Geyser

    I then took 2 Maizey T pieces and trimmed the ribs off the vertical piece. I bolted these to the roof rack and the Geyser on its frame just slots onto these brackets

    I fitted quick connect garden hose fittings to all the pipes on the geyser and on the Landy

    I put on a long gas pipe to reach the gas cylinder on the back of the Landy. This eliminates the need to move the cylinder and adds to the quick set up time for my hot water

    To set up the geyser takes no more than 2 minutes, and I am ready for a hot shower

    When packing up the geyser, I place it in a plastic box, which has a high density foam sheet in the bottom, to prevent damage and scratching when overlanding in the bush.

    Part of my original setup on the Landy is the slide out frame to which I simply velcro the shower curtain. The bottom of the curtain can be pegged down when there is wind about

    My water is also pressurised by the built in Shureflow On demand pump

    The cost of this build, excluding the existing pump and shower arm was as follows

    Geyser = R980
    Maizey connectors = R 77
    Aluminium tubing = R Nil (had some tubing at home)
    Quick connectors = R130
    Pipe = R 25
    Total = R1212

    Good work Edwin, we also have a geyser like yours in our caravan and works great. Hot water in an instant and is relatively cheap.

    No not as yet. I think in that situation ill put some aluminium foil on the side vents so the air draws from the bottom through the chimney flue. Will have to do some testing
