Here are a few of my photos. We have a 2008 explorer ii and love it. We just dont get out enough.

It is a good idea for a a fan club. We travel with our 2004 model quite a lot. We use it at least one weekend a month (whole year). I have a couple of changes I would like:

1. I only have 40lt of water, would like to at least double that.
2. Need more cupboards
3. Want the fridge to slide to the outside like the new models
4. Use the front bed better, not sure how.

Hi Scalci

Speak to the Jurgens dealers. The tank on mine is 100 liters. I am sure it can be retrofitted. There are new cupboards in mine just above the rear bed on left and right side of the caravan which also can be fitted I think. They are however not keen at this stage to attempt a kitchen rail replacement as they say it won't fit.

But I am pretty sure there is someone out there with enough skill that can make it happen.

Hi Scalci

The complete slide out fridge can be done on the older models. The dealer in Bloem just finished my 2003. They fit the newer model's slides and cut half of the kitchen cupboard away.
Works like a charm. Will send pics tomorrow. I bought mine with an additional 80l water tank in front, between nose cone and kitchen unit. To heavy to tow fillled with water, but once you are where you want to be it works.

Here's mine, a 2010 model. In Australia they're called Stargazers. They are no longer sold over here. Jurgens used to import them knocked down and would assemble them here. 2010 was the last of them. I love mine, I don't understand why they weren't popular, except perhaps they were a bit expensive.

Nice! As Shakespeare said...what's in a name. It is exactly the same as the Xplorer. Pity they stopped selling it...

Just got back from an awesome week at Arniston (incl a beach wedding on Thursday). Swambo even commented that the Xplorer is a complete unit and don't need any aftermarket mods done. Everything is there and well designed.

Ons het ons Xplorer gekoop Augustus 2012 en is nog nie 'n dag spyt daaroor nie. Nog nie die "off the beaten track" met hom aan gepak nie maar hy vat die pad (teer en grond) gereeld. Om maar net 'n paar te noem 2 x Kruger uitstappies, Witrivier, Omaramba, Pilaansberg x 2, Klerksdorp dam x 3, Rietspruit dam x 3, Dimalichi, Thwane Bush camp, Weltevrede, Wolwespruit, Jabulani ens. Meer as 4500km al te saam en oor die 60 aande. Maar die jaar gaan hy bietjie Wes kus sand proe oor Desember. Ons beplan ook 'n toer na Etosha in Julie volgende jaar, kan nie wag nie. Veruil ons Xplorer vir niks nie.

I have been to Jurgens in Pretoria and they told me they cannot do the fridge slide out, they say ne the floor structure will not hold the new one. I am sure they are talking rubbish.

Maybe I need to tow it to Bloem

Arrangements have now been made with Brian Pretorius at Caravan Academy in Krugersdorp for the mods I want done- main bed,cupboards and fridge slide to be ready for collection when we arrive back in SA in June, can't wait. Will be using it for at least 5 weeks during our 10 week vacation!

Did any of you fit a solar panel/s to the roof of your Xplorer? And if how. From what I can see, mine is one of the oldest

, but still does the job, on and off-road.

yes I did and after several years I would mount the pannel again the same way

Some statistics.

We've spent a total of 316 nights in 2x Xplorers (2000 model and then a 2009 model) since 2003!

Total towing distance is 44500 km with a Colt Rodeo, then Discovery 2 V8 and for 7 years now the Pajero DiD.

Have never had any issues worth reporting.

Hi all,

Nice idea for the fan club.

I have a 2005 and I think the fridge on the inside is great. 1) there is more work space as the slide out section is bigger. A friend works on his fridge and then have to take everything off before he can open it up. 2) I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old ant they would not be able to access the fridge if it was not in the van. The only drawback is that you cannot open the fridge if the bed is down, but that has not been a problem as my kids sleep in a tent outside.

I have recently bought a 1998 Jurgens xplorer and sold my Echo 3 trailer. Sommer used the caravan the first night on the drive back. Now I need to get the licensing and roadworthy done. And then I want to do some repairs and customisations. Who is a reputable repair specialist than wont cost me a arm and a leg?

Some of the things I want to do
1. Crack above door fixed(water damage prevention)
2. Reseal of whole caravan
3. Permanent double bed with walkway and cupbourd relocated to back (the standard bed is nice but waaayy too big )
4. Water tank fitment to rear
5. Aircon installation
6. Maintenance to pop up roof (new surround canvas and support)
7. Remove kitchen sode window and add drop down table with access to crockery cutlery

Any idea of what this might cost?
