So i tried it again now just for the hell of it and it works fine.

Maybe it just wanted to get out of the campsite.

I will give it a once over to see if there is anything obvious.

Damn difficult to troubleshoot when stuff works....

    Thanks all for your input.

    Cheers

I have an Explorer tent in excellent condition available, what would be a reasonable asking price? Sold the caravan without the tent, as buyer did not want.

I paid R6k for a new one but first owner in 2017.
I have seen quotes on the FB pages for R8k.
Jurgens agents wanted R8k 3 years ago.
This is for the 3 sides and extension roof, not the tent attached to the van.

    G’day from Melbourne, Australia

We have just bought a 2009 Jurgens Stargazer (equivalent to the Xplorer in SA I believe). It had been sitting in a field for the past four years so has needed quite a lot of TLC to clean it up and fix things.

I have a question related to the wheel bearing which I want to check along with the brake linings. I have removed one of the wheels. There is a large nut over the bearing housing. How do you remove this? It doesn’t seem to want to turn using a Stillson wrench.

    Thank you.

    Hi Michael.

    Could you load a photo?

Most of those models have a castle nut with split pin to lock the nut.

Scratch some of the grease away from the front of the nut and take a closer look.

    Cheers

Was the Australian version also fitted with the ALCO rubax axle system? I seem to remember it was done with an independent suspension setup down under.

Thanks for your reply. It was the wheel bearing dust cover I was having problems with.

    Attachment 615407

After using some penetrating fluid and locking the hub with a length of steel tubing through the studs I managed to get it off using the wrench. It is obviously just hammered on rather than being threaded which I had assumed. I have now removed the hub and bearings. The bearings look fine but I will replace the seal and get a spare set of bearings and an extra seal to have in the spares box.

Here is the caravan on its way home after being purchased.

    G’day CATS,

The caravan is fitted with the AL-KO Independent Rubber Suspension (IRS) Axle. I am only now learning what all this means. We have been travelling with an off-road hard top camper trailer for the past five years and have been on some challenging tracks in the western deserts. We are hoping the Jurgens will doo the same.

Quite honestly never seen that cap before Michael. But i can assure you it is not the hub nut but a greade cap. Having flats tells me it screws loose.

Ours here the cap we simply pry off with a screwdriver.

Give it a few taps with a copper hammer whilst trying to loosen it.

    Otherwise I dunno.

    I have a proposal.

    My spare is brand new.

The two others are about 60% left over.

I buy one new, fit the spare so I have 2 new, worn goes to spare.

You propose a price to make it worth my while.

    I am in South JHB

It is the same as the Explorer, 2010 model, dusk cab , use wood block and hammer to get it off, sit over the nut.
