That's actually very funny. And I'm relieved for you that they were not repossessed without compensation. :-)

Thanks Gerhard. It is when we think about it.

Getting fed up of having all these brainwaves only to wonder what did I do? Cant find it anywhere!

Last used the van for our Nam trip 3 months ago. Was a very clever idea in the Kalagadi Park. Must have been the fresh air!

I've cleaned out the garage and found a sheet of canvas material used on the Xplorer mattresses (that khaki color), still in the packaging I received it. I bought it straight from the factory to have a new mattress made with similar styling. Never got to it though. Think I paid just over R1k for it, but it's available to whoever collects with whatever fair donation you think it's worth.

Morning Mark, thanks for sharing the pics! Very interested in the outside kitchen/cupboard setup you have going there. Would you mind sharing a few pics of the layout inside and how it impacted on space inside? And who did the job? It looks great!!ThanksHans

I have come across an Xplorer which is in a fairly good condition. Seems to have gotten some damp in one corner of the ceiling, but it is only cosmetic damage.

It is around 9 years old.

I am totally out of touch with pricing on these things.

What is the range of prices these go for? Assuming the basics like electrical connections etc are in working order?

Beware of this - it might seem cosmetic, but I'll bet you the problem is much bigger than you think. Taking into consideration some repairs there, I'd guess around R150k.

I bought a 2004 Xplorer from Kempton Caravans late last year for R135k. It was one of their "wash & go" vans where it needs some work done to it but isn't in bad condition. There had been a slight water leak at the right forward roof strut area, the tyres were needing replacement and the batter had died. I've been modifying and customising a few things after repairing those known defects as I get time. I ting it was a very nice bargain as it has the larger shower tent, a rally awning as well as a full tent.

Problem comes when you open that zipper and the " stolen " poles fall out and lands on wifey's head

    Tyre size
Sorry if this is a double threat , but can not find this question in previous threats.
I have an older Xplorer on 205/75/16 tyres.
I want to put on something a little beefier.

I did fit a 235/85 /16. Looks great, but play on top is about 10cm. Too little for comfort.
Will a 235/70/16 do the job?

I once fitted 265/75/16 but had to do spacers on top of the axcle, and even then clearance was very little. I have now gone back to std size rims and tyres.

I would say stick to the originals.

I run 265/60-18 on mine, with rims to also match the D4.

Intend to run a 1” spacer but haven’t fitted them yet. Still ok though.

Can I ask how where you got the hubs? I wanted to change my Companion, but everyone said 5X120 wasn't possible.

Not sure if this belongs to anyone here, but I parked next to it in Swakopmund in December, and thought it was a good looking rig!

I’m in Australia. The agent I got mine from had a couple already drilled that PCD with larger studs.

I had a company in the UK custom make me studs to suit the hole diameter and shanked down to LR thread.

Hi Lux, all modifications were done by Kempton Caravans - speak to Clive, he's the master modifier and has tons of patience.

I'm collecting my van from them tomorrow, and I'll answer the questions above with photo's and sizes.
